EGR valve removal?

what kind of performance improvements are there with removing the EGR valve? the flame temperature is higher with it removed and that will retard the timing to prevent knock, however it frees up a little more space in the cylinder for fuel and air. how much of a trade off is there?

Been playing with blocking mine off, restricting it, etc. I'm not noticing much at all, expect extra free space under the hood, and since mine has blown an internal gasket, less exhaust leaks.

theres really no gains from doing it. the only time it actually does anything is at cruising speeds. and then it actually helps w/ fuel economy. you cant really gain from it since it doesnt work when you are looking for power, acceleration.

EGR only comes in during cruise(light throttle, high vacuum) to about 1/2 throttle. If you are looking for power, then you are WOT and the EGR isn't open anyway. There is absolutly no power gain from removing the EGR and related components. You will recieve an SES light with the EGR code if you remove all that stuff, but I'm sure there is a way around that. Gas milage at highway speeds will also decrease with it's absence.

The only thing that you will gain from it's removal is the extra room over on the passenger side for spark plug access.

according to helms manual, and my "understandings" of it. The egr is only "working" after you have been crusing at steady speed, and quickly let off the peddle closing the throttle blade quickly. The map(or maf) then notices a quick spike in vacuum, so the egr and iac opens to let air in to compensate for the engine rpms vs throttle position.

Again, this is my understandings of my readings.

2_point8_boy, Gas milage at highway speeds will also decrease with it's absence. ......how? i thought it didn't do anything at highway speeds?

one performance gain...if you have P&P'd intake and heads...you won't get the carbon buildup in them again without the egr there. that carbon makes the runners just a little bit smaller, to me, that's losing power.

Mines been blocked with the vaccume lines gone now going on three months, i DID NOT get lower milage and IT DOES NOT decrease highway speeds.I only got a code one time. ALSO it helps the inside of the plenum stay clean. Mine still looks like the day i ported and plished everything. LIke am91 said about the carbon, the egr being blocked or taken off helps the inside of the engine stay ALOT cleaner.
