custom cold air....
ok.... im 18 making 5.50 p/h and id like to do some stuff to my car. to me a cold air setup doesnt look hard to make.
my question is... is there anything i need to know about this b4 i start?
what do i want to use, what do i not want to...

Welcome to the boards.
Not to be the "dick" but we have a search function, and this question has been asked alot.
However, to save you time. Your 2.8 has the best intake it can have. Us 3.1 people swap to the 2.8 intake design.
All you need to do is remove the "deflectors" that are located under your filters. Takes like a 1/4 socket and ratchet. Presto, your done.
Not to be the "dick" but we have a search function, and this question has been asked alot.

same guy who tested the intake and found it very efficent, also did some filter testing.
Paper filter flows just as good as K&N, ASLONG as the paper is CLEAN. Once the paper gets dirty, the K&N starts surpasing in quality.
IMO, since your (guessing here) still in school, and making minimum wage, I would stick to your favorite OTC filter. Delco, fram, dosch, whatever floats your boat.

Check my sig for my older CAI. Its easy to make out of some 3" PVC pipe and then u can spraypaint it diff colors to make ur car "look" fast. I got a K&N on it now and i did gain a little in the low end a some better breathing in the higher end.
How i did mine was, i reused the rubber suround form the TB going into a 90* elbow, then into a 9-12" PVC pipe that then was sloted to expand and was pressed over the MAF. From there another short pice of 3" was cut to fit the filter to the MAF. U will need to drill a 5/8" hole in the PVC somewhere to mount the Air Temp sensor, just screw it in and ur done. Now u can enjoy the sound and look of a CAI all for under $15 before filter.
I redid mine a little latter, I cut a 3.5" hole in the sheet metal under where the stock air box sat, then setting the filter under the car infront of the tire fender well where it got lots of fresh outside air. Didnt feel much if of a diff then so i polled it back in and just set the filter ontop of the hole so it gets some fresh air.

Another thing that has been mentioned about the air deflectors and K&N filters (or Kool Blue) is that best anyone can figure, the air deflectors are GMs way of ensuring water doesn't get on the filters. If you take out the deflectors, the filters might get wet. This is not a good thing with paper filters but is okay with K&Ns. At least that is what I hear.

Yep wet filters not good. The one on my site got wet 4times and is now harder than a rock and wont flow
Oh well good excuse for a K&N for me
