No power at WOT

What would cuase a no power bog down at WOT on an '87 MPFI 2.8? Part throttle is fine and I can gradually get the speed up. But it wont do jack when floored.

its a 2.8, u need a modern engine for that. If u are going like 3 mph and mash it to the floor, of curse it will bog down, if ur going like 10 and mash it then it will go.

If it were me i'd have my TPS tested first, then go from there.

Being a 2.8 isn't the problem . Not only will it bog down, but it won't build speed either at wot. Something with the system isn't working right.

O i see. Yeah take a look at the TPS and clean the TB out. Could be full of carbon. Hows it run besides at WOT?

Check your fuel pressure too. A dying pump can cause WOT issues.

...which goes along with incorrect ignition timing... is the inside of the dist cap gunked up with carbon tracking?

In park, it's very snappy and responsive. And once it makes it up to speed, it runs fine. It's getting up to speed that the problem occurs.

It doesn't feel like a miss-fire issue.

Would not having the VSS hooked up do this?

No, the VSS should not cause that.
As far as I know, the VSS has no bearing on how the computer controls the engine (other than cutting it off at the speed limiter setting).

2.8, maf, right? Go rap on the MAF with the handle of a screwdriver while idling - see if it stumbles.

Rap on it, first.. if it stumbles, it's bad. You can test 'em both, tho!

Problem solved. The stock fuel line for the carb'd 2.8 was too small to support the needs of the injection

There ya go. Someone should write that down n save it. If you go from carbed to FI you need to run a larger feed line.
