145 Cluster

What would be involved with gettin a 145 cluster in my V6? I found a good 84 cluster and I have an 86 2.8... Whats needed to go to that from the crappy big gas dummy light cluster? How much will stuff cost and where do I install the stuff?

Thx

Here is a link to the tech section where this procedure is explained...https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/gauges.shtml

The hardest part is getting your hand in back of the cluster to pull out the speedometer cable. You will need to replace the oil sending unit. Which is located down by the oil filter. It is an easy swap I have done a few of them.

Anyone know a good place to find one of these other than a junkyard? Yards around here don't have anything.

believe it's 25% off....the prob is that the v8 tach is trying to read for 8 pulses from the ignition, while it'll only be getting six. if you swap to the cluster, u could add an autometer/sunpro tach on the steering column or pillar if you wanted. Don't know however what you'd enjoy, and i'm not sure if you can fix the tach. You'd think it'd be cheaper ot manufacture a switch or a risitor which could be changed for v6 to v8, but i guess sometimes even GM is an idiot....(happens a lot)

Hey theratdude64, that car in your sig, is that your '86 SC? If so, why does it have the gfx and that hood? Did you put that on yourself?

You can swap the tach/oil pressure cluster out with like 3 screws. Need to replace both for V6 accuracy, plus it's a one piece unit anyway. go figure. You will need to find the tach/oil pressure setup from a V6 gauge cluster first, though

I bought it wrecked, but I got all the pieces to it. http://www.ufba.org/viewmember.php?id=107 is my site on for my local camaro club. I had a green hood up and till last week, then I found this one for $75 Bucks I got the RS nose and IROC Tail lights and a security shade from a junkyard for $98. It doesnt have full GFX, just the front chin, and its messed up

That would be completely custom fabricated Note that the sig line is a link to a website, or a quick search should turn up other pics posted here and details.

Lol.. an eclipse gsx would eat me for lunch. Currently limited to 4psi pending an injector swap, and possibly a speed density swap. And I've got an oil pressure problem which is keeping her off the road, which I'll hopefully have fixed in 2 weeks *sigh*

The to-do list for this car is.. long.. very long..

I plan on an LT1 T56 Swap, and Ive seen a rear turbo that goes where the muffler is, and actually works damn well... Id probally go that route IF i do a turbo

Your car looks exactly the same as mine (originally), except mine has t-tops. (See sig below.)

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but there are V6 145mph gauges out there, and they are the ones with a 6k redline on the tach. The V8s have one with a 5k redline. Again, I am just speculating, so correct me if I am wrong. Anyways, there are some on eBay if you look around (not advertising here), but none for me since I need one in kph not mph.

Nope, highest V6 went was 115 :'(

I wanna buy just a V6 Tach, as in JUST it not the cluster, then Put it in a 145 cluster... anyone got one or know where one is?

THx
