I was looking on ebay, and I found a Camaro with a TTA engine. The car is only at about $1,000. I can't understand this, because in the past I have looked at buying a TTA engine, and I couldn't touch it for less than $4,500. What is a TTA engine really worth?

 

A Camaro with a TTA motor? Sounds like the guy botched the swap, and something's wrong. He might just be trying to get rid of the car!

 

is it a 2nd or 3rd gen car? I have sen pics af a camaro w/the tt/a~gnx engine in it.

But for only $1k, omething has to broke, or is going to.

It should be completed by the weekend. I just started the bidding low, thinking that it would get bid up quickly. If I am unable to get more money for it, then I will start driving it.

 

That's one sweet lookin' motor.. Makes me feel kinda good seeing how close to the TTA my exhaust fabrication is.

Generally because it's considered advertising in the forums. Also because ebay is not paying thirdgen.org for such advertising.

Why did they make so few TTAs? I can't imagine that demand was so low they had to quit production.

 

A: because it was designed to be a collectors car
B: because it was faster than that year's corvette (*BIG* no-no in GM)

 

Not that I even checked to make sure the item number was authentic before I deleted it, but I think that pretty much sums up how solid thirdgen.org's position is on ebay.

 

I see now. I remember also reading about the LS1 (I think it was the LS1 that was in the Corvette and Camaro), that they detuned it and restricted the exhaust so that it didn't perform as well in the Camaro as in the Vette.

As for being a collectors car... they should have still offered the engine after 1989. It's too sweet to stop making it.

I believe the Vettes still had the L98 then.
Reason why the car was "so limited" and the production stopped after only one year.....
Isn't 1987 the last year for the A Body RWD platform?
I DO recall that the GNX was "extended" for a "bit" longer due to demand & GM WAS MAKING KILLER PROFIT off a ride already (body molds & engine) fully amortized in cost. Every car made was seriously icing on the cake of left over stuff that was gonna be eaten by the scrap pile machine.
ALSO final point, I fully believe the emission packages were gonna require more upgrades, thus the "GNX/Turbo engine" could not longer be offered to the public in a vehicle past the 1989 model year.

That is one reason why the F Body died in 2002 model year. DOT body crash & roll over protection strength were to increase (2003 model), GM wasn't selling many F body, why redesign a dead car, let it die.

 

I know this is getting a little off topic, but the reason they should have redesigned it was because I still haven't had a chance to buy a new one. ME! ME! ME!

Yeah but thats hogwash. Hell on average Fbodys dyno slightly higher than Vettes because the live axle eats up a few less ponies the the IRS. When they first came out in '98, Hot Rod dyno'd both, and got ~5 more rwhp out of the fbod. I've even got a pic of the article

Why 1978? Curious. The engine were about as much "performance" as is our MPFI V6!
Last good Corvette was yesterdays model!
These New Corvettes are amazing rides.
And that's from one that has a 1974, had (family did) a new 1974, a 1966, 1961 and 1954.
Yet a 1984 and above Corvette and a 1982 and above Firebird at 50 feet?
Who could tell the difference? Yet, Wayne Cherry (designer team leader of both cars) did a very commendible job on both (Vette & F Body) final products.
