Throttle Body Cleaner
Hey guys I was doing Tomp's major tuneup and he says use some of the STP throttle body cleaner so i got a bottle and was just wondering do I just take the hose off and spray it in there and then open it up and spray alittle bit inside and I'm done or what? Do i need to get a rag and wipe it out too?
Thanks

I spray it on a rag an wipe/scrub the inside of the bore and the butterfly. Wear some decent chemical resistant gloves when you do this.
I've found that a large screwdriver can be placed into the throttle linkage to make it easier to hold the butterfly open. Also scrub the edges of the butterfly as they affect the idle & off-idle transition.
Expect large amounts of carbon, just like an exhaust pipe. The EGR is dumped into the manifold right behind the TB.

if you want to, you can take the throttle body off and clean it out separately. remove the IAC motor too and clean in there. if it gets too carboned up, it will not read correctly. just remember to hold it with the end pointing down so it doesnt get cleaner into the motor itself. or you can drop the $40 and get a new one. once the throttle body is all cleaned out, the spray some into the intake and clean out as far in there as you can. you wont clean out much and it will start hard afterwords, but its worth it. you can also get some GM Top End Cleaner. word has it, that stuff is amazing for getting rid of carbon in the intake, valves and combustion chamber.
