Idle drop on deceleration

I have a 91 3.1 auto.

Ok so Sunday I cleaned out my TB and cleaned the IAC valve. I followed the instructions layed down by TomP and reinstalled. Like expected I got some problems idling at first, but mostly went away after a while. The car runs just fine now even at idle. However on any deceleration, or coasting at lower speeds, the idle drops and jumps and drops and jumps. At times it even dies. Am I expecting the idle to be relearn too quickly or is there a deeper problem here?

So last night I give my buddy a jump. Car idled just fine while we had the cables hooked up, no problems. Then as I leave the car starts dying at every stop, and I throw an SES light. Problem is, I have no scan tool. This morning the light is gone but now RPMs are more irratic then ever. What is going on with my baby!?!!??!

Don't need a scan tool. Use a paperclip between the A and B terminals. Do a search and you can find more detailed information.

you didnt happen to use the battery ground cable as a welding ground recently did you?

Anyway, SAME exact symptom, I replaced battery cable and its gone.

Dale,
I didnt get the ground cable yet but when I suggested the idea to some people I got weird looks. Can you explain to me why this will correct the prob or what you think it might be.

Also, I read that the 3.1s require a scan tool for the ECM to relearn idle and what not. Is this true and are their any ways around it?
