Help, Can I Use Something Else?

i need my egr for the car to idle or run right?...

I cant find the short vaccuum lines in the red cirle to the egr valve there, so can i just use some rubber hose and clamp it on with a cable tie?

What you mean you can't find them? Go to the auto parts store and get some hard winshield washer hose, or go and get some hose the same size as the 3-way fitting that the solid lines connect to and shove it onto the valve. Its probably better to do it the second way as this reduces the number of possible vac leaks at the connections.

The hoses don't have a GM part number, you have to make them out of bulk hose if you are going to. All those specially shaped hoses are is hard washer hose bent with a little heat with either a rubber hose or a rubber fitting on the end to connect it to something.
Personally, I'd plug the hole and forget the hoses altogether. Then I'd remove the valve and plug the hole in the manifold and plenum. Less stuff that you have to deal with that way.

AZ is now selling that small diam plastic hose, only a lot more flexible. It's in the "HELP" section.

Uhm.. the short one from the solenoid to the valve I can understand being broken off.. but the long one from the TB to the solenoid is still there, right?

You can use just about any vac line that will fit to replace the smaller ones. I tend to replace them with the plain rubber versions because the stuff is much easier to come by. Project is 100% correct when he says autozone sells the hard plastic stuff now, though. I went and looked for myself, and sure enough, there's break-pack 3' spools of it in the help section.

How could you be suprised to see it in AZ? Advance has had it for a while with the packages of rubber vac/windshield washer hoses. I was tempted to pick up a box, but I didn't need any at the time ...

It's a new item for them, along w/the little plastic rivet things I needed to put the wheel well covering back in place.

Windshield washer hose is fine. In fact they should also sell the rubber "ends" next to those rolls of hard vac lines. The rubber end is just a shell; the hard vac line shoves into it. So all you really need is a 1" length of the hard vac line; enough to shove into the rubber end, and enough to slip some windshield washer/vaccum hose over the other end.

[edit] If you wanted to shape your rubber vac hoses, I'd bet you could slip a length of thin-gauge (but not too thin of course) safety wire into the hose, and then bend the hose. The safety wire should keep the hose in place, without excessively obstructing vacuum flow. I should try that one of these days to see how it works out. I think it'd look pretty slick!
