Mods and improvements part 1
mods and improvements:
this will make people searching for this kinda thing easier, plus id really like to know.
what mod did you do, and what kind of performance increase or decrease did you see? please list all mods, unless your list is endless, then just list the best improvers. 1/4 mile times and 1/8 mile times are a plus as well at the end of your post or if you did a mod and ran, how much you picked up/lost.
thanks
mike

If only you knew....
MODS:
2.8L exhaust, 2.5" with a Turbo dual outlet muffler and high flow cat. MAYBE a tenth, not TOO noticable on the butt dyno.
2.8L to 3.4L Net me over a second 0-60 (1.2) and 1.6 seconds in the 1/4.
3.4L AFPR Not sure about time gain, but I have DEFINATELY felt a difference in the top end power.
Shift kit (custom). Car breaks loose hitting 2nd, and throws you into the seat hitting third as well. Probably picked up 3 tenths will confirm when my car comes back (having hedders and custom Y pipe with cutouts installed).
Boxed Panhard bar and LCA's WAYY stiffer rear, glued to the ground is the only way to describe it (I'll be intalling a 36mm front and 23 mm rear when my car comes back, i'll lety you know)
The 3.4 was the best mod so far, lol.

i agree with FbodTrek, the 3.4 mod is the best thing you can do. while you got it out, do some p&p work to it, cam, roller rockers, this, that and the other thing. ive got the 3.4 with 1.52 roller rockers, underdrive crank pulley, smog pump delete, dynomax catback, catco highflow cat, open air boxes. along with suspension mods such as dropzone lowering springs, kyb shocks and struts, spohn SFCs, LCAs and relocation brackets and a panhard bar. i think theres more, but this all has taken me from 18.1 to 16.2 1/4 mile times. i was also running 16 degrees timing with premium fuel that time.

What?? I went from a 17.07 to about a 16.5 (only got one run - a tire spinnin' 16.7) from um... a swap to a 3.1, with the MTC-5 cam!

Yup
Stock bushings in the LCAs.... Poly is Highly overrated in my opinion, at least in the LCA bushings (Endlinks and swaybar on the other hand, actually benifit)

doward, what else do you have done to that 3.1? dont you have some p&p done with other stuff? or is it just a stock 3.1 w/ that cam? i dont have any thing but the roller rockers really. underdrive pulley and 8mm wires. thats about it though.

There's also smoothing out the tb passages/holes. Pics when cardomain comes back up, or someone else that has done this posts them.

absolutely !!! offcourse, it could be that the old wires and/or coil were really worn out, or just plain crappy ... i only have this car for about a year, and that was one of the first things i replaced ... after the headers/cat/chip/powerstat upgrade i'm doing (in a couple of weeks) i hope to enter the 15.xx quarter mile club ...
The cold air intake gave the best improvement in drivability and 0-60 accelleration (i used a foam filter instead of the typical k&n-style cones you always see ... ).

well i was quite impressed today. i always had a K&N cone filer that i popped on the end of the stock intake arm,,,well today, i replaced the intake arm with some heater ducting (aluminum because that doesnt conduct heat, keeps air cooler) and wow...what a huge difference, i doubted a seat of the pants differnce, but i saw one. only thing i didnt notice was that my K&N wasnt wistling, it hasnt been cleaned in like a year or so. maybe if i clean it itll whistle again....great mod tho ill try to get pictures sometimes

Before: Stock coil
After: Accel "computerized" remote HEI Supercoil, P/N 140008 (Summit Racing p/n ACC-140008)
Result: Improved, noticed engine would rev "higher" before the auto trans shifted
Before: Stock replacement wires
After: MSD 8.5mm SuperConductor wires, custom "cut your own" V8 set, P/N 31199 (Summit Racing p/n MSD-31199)
Result: Improved, noticed engine seemed to rev up "faster" when I stomped on the gas. (For V6 set order 31179)
Before: No ignition box
After: MSD 6AL box P/N 6420 (Summit is MSD-6420) with GM plug-in harness P/N 8876 (Summit MSD-8876)
Result: No difference in power. Car takes a split second longer to start. Spark plugs get eaten up Fast (using AC plugs). Only real benefit was the RPM limiter. Did mod b/c I ran out of bolt-on's to do.
