question about Xs's and SSA's and a listing on ebay?
Hey Everyone,
I have a few quick questions here, There is a guy on ebay selling a (Arizona) 89 Firebird XS and said they were rare cars maybe?
My car's a Xs or SSa as well, I didnt think they was rare! I am mean surely not are they?
My thoughts was I got most of the Ta looks with the V6 gas mileage without the higher insurance.
If you do a searh on ebay under 89 firebird you will find the car its a white one like mine but it dont have T-top. I just dont think they are rare, am I wrong?

I believe those were dealer packages... where a dealer took a stock car and made some changes to it. They did this a lot back in the 60's.
BUT- Don't take my word on that for the XS/SSA's! You should ask this on the History and Restoration forum, they'd be the guys to ask.

SSA.
that car if its an xs or an ssa is somewhat rare. the xs was made in LA and the ssa in sac. only about 750 of each were made during the middle of the 89 year. the reason for the car was to see if the people wanted a v6 trans am. now besideds the fact that it was a v6 the car handles like a dream. i love my ssa and wouldent trade it for a v8 for anything.

An "SSA" is simply a stock suspension V6 (they had nothing special in the way of performance anything- stock V6 springs, brakes, and swaybars) with simply GFX kits to make it "look alike" the GTA and thenb they added a simple badging for marketing hype. Your car is in no way worth 10K-20K in mint condition stock- sorry to inform you(thats what you posted on another post).
A stock IROC suspension V8 will eaily outhandle your stock suspension and even that stock IROC needs alot of help to really handle to what the car has potentially.
I have a "limited Calif Edition RS" Camaro which sopposedly ment its the first year of the RS and was only released in Calif in '87 and was the first V6 to get GFX's. But Mine did have a sport suspension setup that the '88 and later did not get. I had larger swaybars and a quick ratio steering box stock on this car (32mm front/23mm rear) but the reat of the suspension still sucks. And with that said, My car is not worth anything "rare" or "special" and never will be because it has a V6 in factory form.
So In conclusion, A simple badge saying SSA doesn't mean crap to the cars value, having the largest powerplant does. Hence why the TTA is so highly regarded to collectors, its not the TTA badging that makes the car- its the factory turbo motor that does.

My 90 never came with the SSA badge. Just the Firebird badge on the side of the fenders. My window sticker show the option for the SSA is from the factory.
Just the run of the mill 3.1 with TA clothing without the hood, tail light, wrap around spoiler and rims

thats strange that your 90 had the option cuz it was discontinued before the 89 year was out. Like i said the car isent fast but it outhandles any V8 camero firebird or mustang i have ever driven. Now the car isnt fast compared to a v8 but it needs to take some credit for it only being a 173 2.8 at 130hp. now the car will actualy achive some speeds that are definetly way over the leagal limit. ive gotten mine to about 130 but you got to remember it was built for cheap insureance and good gas milage.
