Where do you???
Where do you guys shift at with 5 spds. I noticed that when ever I shift into grs my car shakes back and forth. Not in first or reverse though. I wonder if I'm not shiftiing at high enough rpms. But I am shiftinig at 3500 sometimes and that should be enough if to much, what you guys think? Thanks
first off i define to much as when your engine redlines, truthfully it depends on your driving style, do you want to save gas or burn it, i would say 2500 is good if you are ms daisey and if your in a hurry you could get away with 4500 possibly higher may want to have your clutch looked at though your problem sounds like it may be cluth wear or somthing along that line, 3500 is a good normal shifting point in my opinion

Thanks man. Yeah I shift around 3-3500. But if I am going up a hill I shift around 4-4500 to keep the car going. My clutch grabs right at the very top. Do you think its crap? I mean right at the top. It grabs at the height of the brake pedal when it is not depressed. Thanks man

Wow.. I shift between 2000-2500. 3.1 = torquey.
WOT, I shift 5500, then 5300 from 2nd on.

Wow thats low. It fine if I'm on a slite down hill or pretty flate, but on a lil incline it needs the high rpm. Kinda odd, think my clutch may be going

Sounds like your flywheel needs to be turned and you prob need to install a new clutch. My 2 pennies.

That 2.8 just had its Tomp tuneup along with everything else. That motor is like brand new. Just never touched the clutch. I will prob have to put one in soon though, but I'm going to wait it out, it is a daily driver and I am unable to find time to leave it for a week. It still drives fine. This spring I hope new fenders, and a new hood. Then clutch and paint

I usually go anywhere from 2000-2500. Big thing that sucks about these motors and the gearing is not being able to skip gears. I love driving the GTA b/c I can go 1st to 4th with almost no effort.... the Camaro... forget about even 1st to 3rd.

Yeah i here ya. I can go from 2nd to 4th but got the keep the rpm high in order to do. Don't like doing that though. Thanks for all the help guys
Doward,
With the 3.1L do you find that 3rd gear sucks till your at about 3000RPM. 3rd seems to be the worst for me. I have even tried shifting from second to third at about 5000rpm, but still lose power in 3rd gear. Once I am in 4th gear power is back to normal.
67 Camaro 88,
Why would you want to skip from 1st to 4th?

No way... even in third it pulls nicely. Now, 60mph + 3rd gear drop, and it's just moving along!
