I'll still probably hold out for a 3.4, but a 3.1 with 80,000 from a 91 is tempting (my 2.8 is a little over 173,000)

I haven't looked at it yet, just saw it in the wrecking yard and it will be available tomorrow, so I didn't get to look at the engine, but they said it's missing a little and the harmonic balancer is spinning on the shaft sometimes. Sound bad ya think?

I'd have to yank the pulley and balancer to see if the key is just broke or something, and the miss i'm sure could be taken care of easily, unless there's something internal. I'll look at it tomorrow.

At least there's the rest of the (untouched) car to pick over.

I have heard of crank and mains and bearing damage if the harmonic balencer inner and outer ring slips. I'm not sure if it would do the same if the entire balencer slips off the key way. Dont know if it balenced to that key way or not. The crank has a slot ground into it with a woodruff key tightly fit into it. So that key can be knocked out and replaced. Just something to think about with the crank and bearings if you but it. Maybe pull the oil pan and take a look?

If the harmonic balancer slipped, and the owner ran it like that, expect a spun rod or main.

hmm.....deep down I started thinking about that, but wanted to see if I was just being paranoid. Well I'm about to take off and look at it. Hopefully there's some stuff I can use.

Actually, I'd just re-ring it, with new mains/rods, and go!

well i took a look at it. I could turn the crank pulley 1/4 in. either way and there was a "clack" sound when it came up tight (on the timing chain I guess). Not sure if that's normal and I can't remember if my 2.8 did that so I'll try it when it cools down. I'll just keep looking and get a 3.4 later on. The 2.8 is still doing okay for now.

Interior was pretty dirty, not tore up though. Ashtray was full and ashes were all over the place when i took the center console apart. Got a new seatbelt (mine was splitting down the sides), console lid (also splitting), and shift indicator assembly. I kinda liked that orange indicator thing so i'll try to make it fit.

Would've been cool to take the whole thing with the power mirror adjustments and wire it into mine, but I already have a cup holder I built into the console and i like that better.

Also wanted the t-tops, ( $30 apiece) but someone put a muffler on top and scratched them up.

if it was up to me, and i know its not. I'd go ahead and wait up and find myself a 3.4L that i liked. Then, since there's nothing really wrong w/ my 2.8L i'd buy the 3.4L, slap it on a stand, and stop modifying my 2.8 (if u actually are) then, i'd devote all my money (that was for the car) into the 3.4L engine, any other accesories for the engine that can be put on the car itself i'd buy as long as they'll swap over easily (aka, nitrous). Then as you're finally ready for the swap and have the 3.4L built as far as you want it, i'd crank the N02 up to a 200hp shot, and give one good run, watch the engine destroy itself, and hit low 13's all at the same time.

but that's just me.

probably wouldn't be the worlds fastest, look on the net for lawnmower racing down in texas...apparently it's pretty popular, and i'm sure someone's jambed a sbc in one....Anyone ever thought of a v6 go-kart? bet it'd be scary fast, if only i had the freetime.
