i have been told it was the EGR valve about to crap out on me Do you think that is the case? also when i unplug the EGR from the vacume hose it does not make the car run any differently. but noise is still there.

rockers
injectors
still have exhaust leak
pistons hitting cylinder walls
any pullys with to much shaft play
I highly doubt its the EGR valve, I have never heard of a UFO style egr ticking. New digital ones, Yes.

heh i just found out that there is supposed to be a gasket in the spot where the Y pipe meets the manifold i thought there wasint supposed to be one cause it wasn't there when it was replacing gaskets
I don't think the noise would come from the engine as it has less than a thousand miles on it. I hope

It's not really a gasket; it's a cast-iron donut-shaped thing.
Well... it's a cast-iron donut on MY car. This is the second post I've seen in two minutes that has talked about having a gasket there! I'm confused...? I've never seen a gasket in that spot.

By strict definition that metal doughnut is a "gasket", but not really what I'd call a gasket. That would have to be some thickass gasket material heheh. Of course that sparks some curiousity on the gasket comments on my part too...

it is the doughnut that i was refering to but that wasn't my problem
it is that the Y pipe that is currently on the car does not mate properly to the engine so when i put the doughnut in it just leaks past the top edge. i would put the one on my car that is from the donor car that the engine came from but my exhaust has been welded together. now i have to replace the whole thing

I have a ceramic type dounut in my car with wire mesh insie of it. When you tighten up the Y pipe, it forms to it and does not leak this way at all. Much better then that ceramic crap

Camaro350man, where'd you find those?
For those of us with the cast iron pieces; if you take them out, hone the inside with a metal file (meaning, a file meant for metal, not a file meant for wood) to remove the sharp ridge in the center. Oddly enough, it turned into performance that I could feel! Not bad for 15 minutes of work with a file.
