This is a post for all the 2.8-3.4 swaps....

how did the swap go?

did you have to alter anthing for it to work?

did you change the chip?

was there more power and was there a big difference in throtle responce?

my 2.8 was DOA when I got the car. Ididmy swapa alittle different than most inthat I kept the 3.4 serp beltrouting. As always, be aware of the pipe plug in the rear pass head, where the 2.8 fan switch is. And becareful ofbreaking the factory plastic hardlines (which are available in the "HELP"section now).

May as well inspect/changemotor mounts while the engien is out.

I also have some pics of the swaps on the cardomain site.

:LOL Heck yeah there's more power! You'll have more acceleration, more torque, more tire spinning. It's a night and day difference! I went from a G-tech best of 18.1 to a G-tech best of 16.3 by just swapping the motor. The G-tech is off, I know, so I took the 3.4 to the track as well. I ran a 10.75 1/8th. That's a high 16 mathwise (don't trust conversions though). After a cam and hedders, I went a 10.02 (ran after the hedders, ran a 10.65, did before cam swap). There are some decent times to be had with a 3.4, really good swap.

3.1 to 3.4 here. I did a slightly different swap as well, but not major. Kept 3.4 oil pan, 3.4 oil housing, started off using 2.8 fuel rail and lower intake. Quickly switched back to 3.1.

Swap went fairly easy, tad bitch alighning back up to the trans and stabing distrib in (me and distribs dont get along).

Only alter made to make it work was move the knock sensor.

Still running stock chip

Noticable power, but not night and day like others say.

When I did my 3.4 swap, with the great details from KED85, I simply came up with the conclusion that this is equivalent to swapping a 305 for a 350. The 2.8 though, was/is a better motor than a 305. The best 305 was the limited availability fi/215 horse motor later replaced with a 190 horse carbbed motor in the 80's.

That's my take.

Thanks
Rick

when i pulled my 2.8, i had leaking injectors and it was just tired. my 3.4 only had 57,000 miles on it. i resealed/gasketed everything but the internals on the block. it also got a new oil pump. i noticed a huge difference before and after. i also did some other mods during the swap though. best thing you can do, aside from turbo
