Throttle Body project is nearly done...

the new 65mm throttle body is basically done. i have a few minor things left to do to it. but, i had it on the car tonight and the engine idles right with it on there! :lala: i can just barely crack the throttle open with this TB on the stock manifold; the blade hits the front of the manifold. so, i gotta get the new manifold ne soon too!

here's another shot...that's as far as the blade will open.

thanks, hopefully i'll have it on the car to stay before too long.

actually, the 58 or 60 could be more time consuming to make than this 65 was. however, i had to figure everything out for this one so IF i do more, they'll go together a little quicker. we'll see.

What would make it any longer than the 65?

i MIGHT end up with more time honing the bore, making sure it gets to the right size. i don't know yet, i'll have to explore a couple of other methods that might work better.

hey doward, you may have some options to add to your turbo kit, lol. you do the exhaust side of it and AM91 can take care of the intake side of things. just make on bit optional kit from both of you

Awesome. Why don't you make a tapered 65MM spacer that will allow use of that TB on your stock manifold (yes I'm aware of the counterproductiveness)(is that even a word?). Funneling the inlet would increase air velocity, would it not?

i think that's a word... anyways, i don't think that the bigger TB would do much good with a tapered spacer because, yes the velocity would increase a little but i don't think that it would be enough to do much. the spacer would add a little more plenum volume too but, again, not much. my new intake will have about 150-175% of the stock plenum area. this should help top end power a lot.

I wish you would just buy or borrow a Gtech computer and get us some numbers. It will be snowing in Florida by time you get a break in the weather.

Couldn't you just build a spacer / adapter easier n just move the TB forward.

Might be easier to make a spacer with a hole big enough to open the blades them machine on the intake.

i'm making an intake with a bigger neck and more plenum volume to help out more. i'm also planning to port out the runners quite a bit. i have the top cut out of my new plenum so i can port that end of the runners while i'm at it.

Nice work.

I don't mean to be negative but won't that size TB be overkill? Hell, anything bigger than a 52MM on even a modified V8 is overkill. I might do you more harm that good.

yea, v8s run dual blades, i'm running a single 65. i don't think it will be overkill. even if it is, i'll make another one and go smaller

I ran his setup (or as close as I could figure out) on DDD, and 65 isnt "hurting" him. However, much over 63 was it? Really didnt gain him much. I think it should work just fine. Gonna have to do some ecm tuning for sure though.

BTY, did you get my email AM91?

i'm working a bit more vigorously on the manifold now... i'm going to go kinda crazy with it though. i'm planning to cut the roof out of all 6 runners on the top piece and get the floors welded so that i can raise them about 1/4" then raise the roofs about 3/8" so that i make them about 1/8" taller inside than stock. then i'll grind the short side radius of the 90* bend. with all of this, the top part should flow tons better than before. then i'll have to get to work on another middle and lower...then heads! i'm planning to make this baby run a whole lot better than she ever has before! i'll get pics here and there as i go. you would be surprised at how horrible the inside of the plenum area is! there is, what looks like, a pile of 'left over' aluminum that was dumped in there during casting. it is horribley rough!

Actually, I'm not. I did spend time to cut one open to see what was inside.

I had no ideas as to how to make it better, so I chunked it.

here's a pic after i cut the roof out of one runner. its going to be a lot bigger than that when i get done with it! i'm going to port the runners like this then weld the roof back in place. that bend in there is nearly 80-90*, i'm looking to straighten it to about 60* or so. that should help the flow a whole lot!
