v6 upgrades and Maryland inspection/emissions

Was wondering if anyone has done the 2.8l to 3.4L swap in Maryland, or if anyone has done any other mods that caused problems when you took you car in for inspection or emissions test.. Like putting on a Edelbrock header or the Dynomax catback dual exhaust system? I have a 2.8L carbed model that I want t o rebuild, but have never been thru the inspection process.....

i don't know about inspection situations, we don't have them here. but, just FYI, edelbrock doesn't make headers for our application.

Well as long as you stick to the 2 barrel manifold and stock carb, you should be fine. I'd avoid the dual exhaust. Just get one of the quality kits from Dynomax or Flowmaster for a lo-po 305 (H motor). It much easier to mount up and won't require any $$$fabrication$$$.

I live in Cecil county and the only thing they really check is if a cat is on the car.

Nice thing about your 82 is its an 82 -- no treadmill, just a tailpipe sniff test

I got high flow cat and flowmaster exhaust and never had a problem with emissions. Also got a K&N air filter. My car is also MPFI though so I dunno if they would have more of an effect on your car then mine.

Woah, Maryland throws the car on the dyno too? Damn this is ridiculous. Are there other states besides NJ (me), MD, and CA that require a dyno?

I can't wait until I hit "classic" status, but supposedly, NJ changed it to 25 years, and bumped antique to 30 years. So in 2011 I'll be able to run with any damned thing I want... so far away...

Yeah they do but its a "rolling" 20 year thing (I think). Our Buick and Geo had to do the treadmill, my 83 didn't.

Good thing in MD historic registration can be for cars 20 to 24 years old if they are not making them anymore (usually 25 years old). So I could register my 83 as a historic.

Hmmmmm....

Tom, Don't hold your breathe. Governor Arnold just put the screws to us out here in So. Cal when he just recently repaeled the 30yr rolling exemption we have had on the books. It was 25 and they progresively held it to 30 years until a month ago when they claimed all out that anything 1976 and newer will always have to be smog checked. I have a '77 El Camino that I was holding my breathe on and just got screwed.

And I always thought he was a car buff- Frikin politicians, squabbling votes through funding social programs.
