Couple of simple ways to find out
Parts store, go to belt parts book & answer may be there. IF same belt part number ya MAY be lucky.

Watch out! some "GENERAL" may complain about your choice of topic & request this thread get locked!

BUT I do not believe parts are same DUE TO the difference in FWD/RWD 60* cylinder head designs.
Doesn't mean ya may not get lucky BUT perhaps score a 3.1 FWD set up for your part ya seek.
Hope the girl is worth the trouble ya caused!

IS it the tensioner that is on a arm i believe and you ise a rachet to move it? if so you might want to try oldsmobiles at the bone yard they have the same 2.8 3.1 fwd engine i believe i think even some buicks may have the same enigne. So you are not limited to one year. But the part is not avaible through Autozone.

You might want to call the gm parts counter get the part number and buy it though GMpartsdirect.com.

Is it the setup where you have to turn one big bolt to move the ensioner up and down? Or is it the setup where it has a spring in it that will put tension on the belt on its own.

Is it a single belt that runs the car with i belive 6 ribs in it?

That is a very different setup then what the both of my cars had. Best bet is to look at many different years and models of GM cars at the boneyard since GM used the same parts on different models. Or see if you might be able to get a spring loaded tensioner from a FWD v6 and see if that may be able to bolt in place. I dont think it will but it may be worth a try.

Nope not even close to the same. You need to expand your search from Cavaliers to other FWD GM applications. I know the Corsica, Lumina, Citation, Pontiac Sunbird and a few other have these brackets.

Worse case senerio you could get it tig welded, try finding an ALT bracket for an 80 vett.

You want an alternator bracket for an 1980 Corvette?

Send me an email before noon-ish PST & I'll give ya a name & phone number.
NOT a problem for me.

I'll bet I can supply two sources, one I know out here in LA, CA (Bellflower, actually). Other back in PA & you'll probably have to phone the PA one on Monday.
PS Mine broke on my 1974. I threw the belt, chipped into hood (I still see two fiberglass flake spots). That breakage was the actual fist time I was ever stranded in my Corvette. Took me MANY HOURS to drive home due to "overheating". Made it tho!
You have same as mine, under support, with an arm on top.

Hope this helps

Actually is was about a year ago when I broke the second peice from the bracket. I was on a customers car too.

I had to get it tig welded cost $25 but saved my butt. The only problem I had with getting this fixed was a few spots had to be grinded down.

Ready?
I replaced mine for $15 from my buddies in Long Beach area (actually Bellflower).
It's cast iron & I wasn't gonna waste effort "your way" (understand NOT a put down!!) due to a call & a $15 check solved my problem.
I discovered to keep alt. belt proper tension after that episode! And I learned how to rebuild an alternator for $9 kit from Pep Boys, too.
Gotta love old cars!
PS Wish I could have found a way to rebuild the Firebird alternator for only $9! kit LOL.

AND I'll bet the customer never knew what happened! cause ya can't see down there once alternator in place.

I have a few vett sources in in colorado, I guess the claim is one of the biggest used/new corvette dealers is in colorado springs about an hour away. I'm just lazy when it comes down to it.

I LOVE SCROUNGING AROUND CORVETTE WRECKING YARDS!
LOTS OF "Little" things end up in my pocket.
Try finding a good original one year rubber button for the under hood shut off switch for seat belt interlock starter system.
Remember those things?
My 1974 (the one year) Corvette still has all that stuff, disconnected, yes, but....
I found it in a Back East PA wrecking yard for Corvettes! They do deliver, too. But I had to find my the scrounger method!
