Ya know; I had a picture that someone drew for me... can't find it on my computer. I'd like to see that picture too! (Someday I may swap to serpentine drive so I can use an underdrive pulley set)

i can tell you what it is, since i just redid my computer. from the crank, the belt goes around the p/s pulley, straight across to the tensioner, around the outside of the alternator, to the waterpump and down to the crank. this may not be too clear, but i havent put the pics back on my computer yet, sorry if this isnt too clear.

Thanks for the label pic! That doesn't make sense then for a non-ac car; if it goes right from the p/s to the tensioner, doesn't the belt rub against the water pump belt that goes the other way?
Or did non-ac, serp belted cars have their p/s pump mounted higher?
'Cause going by Dean's pic of his engine, if there was no a/c, I don't see how the belt can go straight from p/s to tensioner.
You can actually see my confusion in my ultra-bad drawings... looks like the belt will rub against itself above the water pump.

You are correct Tom, If it is a NON A/C car it still has to run a dummy pulley in place of the A/C compressor. There is no way to run the belt from the tensioner directly to the powersteering pump pulley without it rubbing.
I have a GM A/C delete pulley on my Chev truck that will work on the 2.8 A/C compressor mount. That GM A/C delete pulley was a factory option for the IROC 350 cars. I someone wants, I will take a pic of it and supply the part #.

on my 88, there is no A/C, but there isnt a dummy pulley. it comes close to the waterpump pulley, but does not rub on it. there is an inch or two of clearance

tomp, I just noticed that bottom drawing, w/o smog is wrong.
It goes from the alt, down to crank, then up to wp, then over to ps.

Ah, gotchya; I guess with my drawing, the ribs are facing the wrong way AND I've reverse-rotated the water pump!
I'll have to correct that drawing so nobody uses it by accident... maybe I'll even make it pretty.
