Have to give it gas to start???
On my wife's 87 RS--2.8L/700r4, we always have to give it gas (press the gas pedal) slightly for it to start--can't figure it out. Once it starts it runs/ idles fine.
Checked,and/or replaced and/or adjusted following with no difference:
complete ignition--plugs,wires, cap, rotor, coil, timing
MAF
EGR Valve + operation
TPS (.50)
IAC
vacumn leaks including intake vacumn level with meter
Ox sensor
Cat not plugged
?????????HELP???????????

it has a version of a map by the egr solinoid. Iferget what it's called, but I'm sure someone will chime in w/the exact name. It has about 4~5 wires to it & a vacuum tube going to it.

I found that-- has 4 wires--went to Oreillys auto parts--had no such part.
Any one know what it is called or the electrical values to double check it

Did you clean out the throttle body? It gets a lot of crud in it on the back side, where you can't see it, from the egr. Could be blocking the IAC passage.
Is this only when cold, or at any temperature.

Done only few months ago--the problem has pretty much been there since we bought the car several years ago.

About the only time it will start is if it within a minute or so of being shut off.
Cleared the pooter (ECM) jsut replaced ox sensor and fixed vacumn line and checked EGR for the 32 + the 45--seems to have gone away. and still getting a 33, but it takes a while before it throws the code. Could that have anything to do with it? (Actually this should go in another post about this car) see below

TPS voltage should be .54-.56, btw...
Cold start injector is a valve at the back of the intake manifold which opens during cold starts to richen the fuel mixture (it isn't handled by the ECM, like 88+ cars)
Cold start injector is wired to a switch that sits next to the coolant temp sensor. CTS is yellow and black wires, other is the cold start switch.

The 4-wire single-vac-port vaccum switch they're referring to is the EGR diagnostic switch.. it just tells the ECU when the EGR system is operating correctly. It is not a MAP, but is what's triggering your EGR code if it's unplugged or leaking vaccum.

THANKS for the info guys.
I'm pretty familiar with my 89 IROC, but not so much with my wife's 87 rs.
Cleared the codes after repairing the vacumn line on EGR and replaced ox sensor. Will see if the 33 comes back. I checked the MAF and it seems ok and does not have any "symptoms" like one might expect.
Thanks again.
Craig
