Msd

Building 3.4 crate engine, with holley 390 4brl. Mallory dist. headers, staying with cam that comes with engine. Now is there any good reason to put MSD.

Thx
Paul

If you're ditching the computer, it makes sense to add one on while you're at it. Could always go with a Mallory box, too.

But if you were keeping the computer and the fuel injection, I'd say it wouldn't be worth it and to just add a high-output spark coil. I didn't notice any difference on my fuel injected '86 when I put an MSD 6AL box on.

Yeah especialy if you are going carbed. Not only for performance but for cold weather starts. Before I put on the msd I usaully had to keep pumping the gas to start it and rev it to warm it up but after I installed the msd with a high output coil It always started on the first crank and would keep going without stalling. But make sure you adjust your gap on your spark plugs and mount the box away from any direct heat.

A better Ign system is allways better over stock parts.
Its one of the first mods that should be done.

Is that a cap n rotor type or a trigger system???
Long as you have good control over timing advance and the curve your good to go.

MSD

The Mallory Unlite distributor that I am putting on the 3.4 is an electronic ignition with a self contained optical pickup & module.
The engine will have the 390 Holley Carb, and not fuel injection
