Will the s10 HT 3.4 work?

My 86 SC has the original 2.8 and 700R4. I've got about 145K on the clock and was wondering if the s10 HT 3.4 would work? BTW - I have to pass a sniff test.

The information from GM says carb only. Is that because it puts out 85 and older emissions specs? It seems to me like it would work regardless. It's hard to find a Camaro 3.4 new or GM reman on the internet. There are plenty of used though.

I want to upgrade with the least amount of hassle. A V8 would be nice, but also a pain in the ---. Other V6's wont fit without serious customizing.

I like this car better than my old 87LT with the V8. My 86 V6 drives better, looks better, and gets pretty descent mileage.

Any Ideas?

swapping another 2.8, 3.1 or 3.4 wouldnt be any hassle at all. they all require the same as replacing the engine w/ another of the same thing you have. the only difference is you have to use the injectors with what the larger engine comes with, if it is larger. anything ive read says you wont have any problems passing emissions, but i cant gurantee it. someone help me out on that please. a 60 degree V6 is the same as any other.... externally. its way easier than swapping a V8 though. you can use the same intake as your 2.8 and noone would visually ever know the difference.

no the s10 HT 3.4 wont work due to emission regulations though. a used 3.4 out of a 93-95 camaro SHOULD though. everything that bolts on to your current 2.8 will bolt to a 3.1 or a 3.4.

The ht3.4 will physically bolt up n work with a cam swap. The cam in it is cut for carb use, not fuel injected.

You will also need to find you some 17lb injectors.

Not sure how your state deals with EPA shiznit, dunno what kinda paperwork you need.

OH PLEASE THIS IS SO SIMPLE!
In all HONESTY
IT'LL FIT
IT'LL PASS SMOG
IT'LL WORK JUST FINE
WHY
ALL YA DO IS
RETAIN YOUR CURRENT VEHICLE INDUCTION/IGNITION SYSTEM & EXHAUST!
Slap/slip the 3.4 under it & be done.
WHY I KNOW THIS?
Guess who lives in smog state heaven!
AND I GO THRU THE TOUGHEST SMOG TESTING IN THE COUNTRY!
I MEARLY PRESENT THEM WITH A 1985 Firebird with a 2.8 engine under the hood.
And it "was".
To smog testing it is a 1985 Firebird 2.8!
Have no fears, install 3.4 and enjoy the rewards!
PS I have done thi to my 1985 S-10 Blazer also (slipped in a 3.4 engine) under the stock 2.8 carb stuff.
When I get the moments to secure the situation, Blazer'll pass, also, just fine.
PS this time, I am going to try and pass 85 Firebird without a CC (it's now hollow). I'll give it a tune up & see what progresses!!
