where is the iac valve??
my car surges when i stop and when it gets almost to opperating temp it also idles funny...i had a starter replaced lately at a shop and i think they didnt connect one of the vacumme lines tight. where would these lines be? and im thinking after ready the iac forum im thinkin it could also be a problem..oh..and my pvc valve is LOOSE...not tightly on my valve cover like it should be..is it gone or does it need some gasket glue or something...thanks

Ahh, replace starter, need to disconnect battery first. The 3.1's need to have an idle learn session completed after a battery disconnect. Otherwise the symptoms you are having rear their ugly head.
I've posted the steps here before, if I I can find them I'll post back.

My original post is gone but Dale outlined it in that post. There is also some other good information on cleaning the TB.
To answer one of your other questions the IAC is on the right side of the TB. Black plastic (?) can, 4 wire connector and two screws holding it on.

thanx i really appriciate it. my pvc valve is basically just sitting there, lol..that prolly explains why i smell gas all the time. so if i follow the steps u gave me it should stop with the wierd hesitating and sputtering? its only been since that starter has been replaced. it was wierder when i 1st got it back. thanx again!!

Yes, the idle learn works. Otherwise it takes about two weeks of daily driving with stop and go traffic for it to straighten itself out.
