Intake question
I'm seriously thinking about an intake setup for my 1989 2.8 after seeing all the positive things about it here on the boards. I searched and have mainly seen it for camaros and not birds though. Anyone have any pics for birds? Are there any cautions, hints, etc? Where do you get those rubber adapter things?
Also, does an intake give that nice hiss that you hear on all those......imports? I like the hiss....but would prefer to see it on my car instead of those cars. What material would give the best hiss? Metal piping?
Sorry, but yeah....inexperienced guy here

K&N air filter, you can use plastic pvc, I just finished mine, I don't have the right filter yet but I can take a picture tomorrow of it in the car. You can get everything you need from a hardware store. 9inches of pvc, 1 pvc 90degree elbow with only 1 lobe, then a 45degree elbow with 1 lobe and a 3 inch to 3 inch rubber coupling. Cost me $40 to build the arm but I also bought a decent pvc saw and 5ft of pvc.

sounds good to me. check out the CAI link in my sig. a few pics and instructions. makes a nice hiss. if you have a MAF i would recomend washing the oil out of the cloth K&N. the oil can damage the sensor. see my intake here
thats the only picture i have of the whole intake.
since that photo was taken i have cut out the steel intake tray and re-located trha charcol canister into the fender. once the rain stops here in oregon i will mount a scoop to realy get some airflow.

I just finished my custom cold air intake that's the same as basically everyone elses except I used the stock air filter replacement. You can see pictures here:

since I couldn't post the pictures here due to size.

Hmm...here's what i'm thinking for now....leave everything stock, except build an intake from the MAF sensor then let it go to the stock rubber intake on the throttle body because of the fit and that hose from the passender side valve cover. Basically do away with everything from the MAF to the rubber inlet. What do you guys think? Good? No good? Will i get that nice hiss?

I have my intake fabricated, but not in yet. All out of 3" steel exhaust piping (I like to weld) I will try to get some pictures up this afternoon because I am at work right now. It has been quite a project to fabricate the pieces, but I think it will look nice once it is in. Since I drive mine everyday, I need to have a good saturday to install it so that I can fabricate a couple of mounting brackets (can't get the proper measurements without taking the stock airbox out.) Planning to paint the MAF to match the rest...hopefully without any adverse effects!

the a/c condensor removal is required for clearance.

That is a very nice setup! What is that you used for the piping?

*** no. do not worry about that.
watafo- why not try ram induction?
those tech articles only adress ram induction for Camaros. many of us, including KARR have firebirds. without buying a new hood we do not have much of a ram option. atleast not if you live in a rainy area. like oregon.

Xophertony and 1989karr, thanks...I hope it looks as nice when I get it in...
There is only one hose attachment, the other on the short pipe is threaded rod for a mounting bracket. The hose attachment is for the p/s valve cover vent. Made some changes over the stock so it won't suck oil into the throttle body (hopefully.) Trying to keep everything in working order so I can easily revert back to stock...makes it a little more callenging, but I think it will be worth it.

you can use a 3/4 inch wrench to take that sensor out, if your drilling a hole in the intake arm that you making for the sensor 5/8's drill bit and you can use the sensor to thread the hole, at least if it's pvc you can.
