performance parts for the 2.8
i just finished test driving a 89 camaro 2.8L and i noticed that it didnt pull all that well, due to the mileage. If i choose to rebuild the engine, are there any high performance companies like edelbrock for example, that can provide me with, say, pistons and rods, that can stand forced induction down the road. I need something that will stand high rpms.....into about 8k, but i can't seem to find any companies that carry the third gen 2.8L internals. Any help guys??

8000 RPM? Maybe 5500-6000 tops, unless you're planning to build a new intake (and heads for that matter) that could flow enough air to support that.
The best performance part for a 2.8 is a 3.4! Easy bolt in, uses your stock accessories...search for the "3.4 swap boogie" threads, ala Ked. I have done as much as anyone on this board for NA 60 degree V6 performance, and this is the best thing you can do.
Ross makes forged pistons for the 2.8 (fiero store carries them), and they (or just about any other piston company) will make them for you on a custom basis. Most of the cam companies list cams, or you can have a custom grind done (like Redraif). PF&E and Pacesetter make headers, Trueleo and AM91RS make intakes, and Doward has a turbo kit (think the GP fell through, but he could probably help you). There is some good V6 tech here (search), and also on http://www.fieroforum.com .

Either find a 3.4 to rebuild, or if you are set on rebuilding your current motor, then get the pistons and crankshaft for a 3.1. Shotpeen your rods (forged stock) and install ARP rod bolts, whichever way you go.
GP's still going through fine. I'm still selling the kits, at any point anyone wants one, just let me know

doward i want one, how much for a GOOD kit. something that will work with my 2.8 stroked for a 3.1 bored .60 over. i got all the internals beefed up already and trueleo is making me a manifold and i am making the throttlebody, i want a little more than 200 horse though as i already gonna make that once some stuff gets in that i ordered, put it this way i running almost the same stuff as AM91 only a little hotter cam and some other minor odds and ends.
by the way if anyone cares, since i can't find them i am gonna do some R&D on the throttlebody and start producing them on special order basis when i am done, more than likely to fit trueleo's intake at a size of 65mm. this is all dependent on what i uncover durring R&D though.

2.8 help
I've got a 2.8 in my 86 bird that has a (suppossedly been beefed) V6 that replaced a V8. Dunno just bought the car. The guy is ganna get me the engine paperwork this week. Anyway its got a 5 speed, stall converter, 3" side pipes. I've been playin alot and she just doesn't throw my in the seat hard enough but has a nice gear ratio. I want a harder snap off the line. What can I add on the outside of my power plant, without spending a few grand on a turbo? She's nice but I want more and fairly cheap.

I'm in the NW if that makes u an reassuring
.But yah, I'm going with some of the latter choices. Once this engine is in, drive it for a little, then in the winter when RWD sucks in Calgary I'm going to either pull this one and beef it up or rebuild another 3.4 with forged internals and upgraded just about everything then drop that in, sure it won't make much of a different right then and there, but add a 100 shot of nos or a turbo and you won't blow it quite as easy. Let me know if u wanna go for a spin once this 3.4 gets in.
If your looking for serious performance though, go with a v8, but the problem is here, most of them are either rusty as hell, cost alot, or have been beat to hell, aka all bad choices.

Good upgrades? Buy headers and install a new 3" exhaust from thos headers all the way back, it iwll help it breathe much better
another is the intake, if you go with a carb, not fi, get a 650 or 700cfm carb, upgrade the intake manifold and get a better air filter and maybe a bit bigger if u wanna get a cowl hood or something.
For TPI i'mnot sure if the manifolds are the same, but you would want to look for one there too.
Then go igintion, full igniton needs to be brand new, not half old and half new, these parts are coming up on 20 years or some are older then 20 years old, time for nice aftermarket replacements.
If that isnt quick enough for you, throw a cam in, then it should be.
I know my dads stock 5.8L in his ford truck can throw me back in the seat if it would hook up, thats totally un modifie, 10 years old, nothing aftermarket, and no hooking up in the rear.
