1.) I'm currently running an almost stock drivetrain and I occassionally get a gas odor. I think the gas tank fuel filler neck may have a small crack -- a not too uncommon problem for certain cars.

2.) Post more on what the car is: engine, model, etc...

3.) When the stereo changes to mono, do all four speakers play the same thing or does the audio simply cut out on one wide of the car?

im just kinda worried, cuz i got flamethrowers and i dont wanna put em in with a gas smell, fire+gas=not good

the car is a 1984 2.8 V6 carb.

the stereo switches to mono, all the speakers play the same thing then it goes stereo, and it startles me, and then it goes back to mono

1. Mine smells like unburnt gas, and raw gas sometimes. But I have no emissions, so this may be why. Also yours is carb, if I recal, them tend to smell like that at times.

2. Sometimes commen on carbs. Internal float not right, not sucking gas from propper spot in tank.

3. Install aftermarket radio if its still stock. If its aftermarket, install new aftermarket.

No actually it isn't going to be cool, thats for ricers, not Camaros.

Carb's always smell like gas, especially when you step on it and it uses alot of the bowl up then you get a bunch of new fuel coming you will normally smell it then. You don't want to have flamethrowers in the first place, but you DEFINATLY do not want them when you got fuel odors running around and a possible small leak, your stupidity will be your own fault when you blow yourself up and I will have no simpathy for you. Also you may not notice a leak because gas evaporates fairly fast in small quanitities compared to water, so it may be "gone" before you can see it but it will still light up if u spark it.

Your bowl may not be filling up correctly so you are taking a turn and its moving the bowl to an angle where it is getting no gas, then stalling out.

Check wiring.

And just so you know, you wasted your money, 2 spark plugs, a simple switch from radio shack, some wire from Radio Shack, wire it into a 12v source, wire it to the switch and the plugs, hit the switch, and BAM, all for a few bucks as you can use your old plugs which arent good for running your car, but good enough for making flame shows.

I had the exact same car awhile ago. A 1984 Camaro 2.8L carb, with a 5 speed manual. Taking tight turns would make my car stall as well. It was the belt. I found out because one time I was making a sharp tight turn in a parking lot, and the belt came off the power steering pump. I was able to get it back on to get home, but I later had it replaced and never had the problem again.

Also, mine smelled like gas too, with no leaks, I just figured that's because it sucked.

As for the stereo, you probably have a short somewhere. Or, it's because it's an old ****ty stereo.

LOL! That's been an old-school hot rod accessory that the import scene picked up on. Just cuz they were used in the Fast & Furious doesn't mean it's an import thing! The hot rod guys would just pull their choke out, which would richen the a/f mix enough to kick some gas out of the tailpipes. I guess that's what the "magic box" does with that flamethrower kit. But besides the switch and some spark plugs, you also need an ignition coil or two.

Of course he'll melt his plastic back bumper, but it's his car, not mine- and hopefully the flames won't reach the gas tank which is mounted above the muffler!

As for cutting out on a tight turn; either your gas gauge is screwed up and you're running on empty, or, you might have a sensor in your power steering pressure line that's broken. The sensor's on the 85-92 fuel injected cars, and increases the idle of the motor so the engine doesn't stall out. It might be on your 82-84 carb'd, couldn't hurt to check (it's easy to see if the sensor's there, it's right by the steering box, sticking out of a tube line.)

yes I am Quite aware of that. But there are a few issues...

1. He isn't old school
2. He isn't a hot roddering
3. He doesn't drive an old school hot rod
4. He is doing it for ricing purposes, not for hot rodding purposes
5. In no way as of this moment in time is a thirdgen camaro considered a hot rod
6. Its stupid on a street car, hot rods aren't driven daily and put 15,000 miles on them a year, daily drivers are. One is unqiue and priceless, the other is a beater being riced out.

One of my friends told me Jay Leno has a rocket powered car which melted the bumper of (I think) a Diablo that was sitting behind him @ a stop light. I don't think he drives it anymjore...

thanks to the people that answered my questions and helped me out.

but you....if you dont like flamethrowers, thats fine, i don't care, thats respectable, but when you **** all over me and what i like and my car thats just rude. So take your snobby ****en attitude and stick it up you're ***. a real car guy respects other perople's cars. so go **** yourself.

I respect other peoples cars that respect their own cars. If your old school why are you "fixing" up an Third Gen Camaro, that isn't old school, 50-60's is old school, there for #1, your not old school.

2. I guess you could be a hot rodder and doing **** to your car, but flamethrowers won't get that alone

3. Yah it isnt old shcool so yah

4. Ok maybe not ricing, but you have to have other things done besides a flamethrower to be considered a hot rodder, which means everyne will classify u as a ***** until you proove them different, as in most cases, people don't hop up and suep up 2.8L Camaros for hot rodding purposes.

5. Bone stock Camaro with Flamethrowers isnt a hot rod

6. Unless you want $300 stunting tickets, melting your own bumper because you dont have enough pressure to throw the flames out far enough, metling other peoples bumpers that are too close, having to pay for those damages when you do do them, possibly having your car impounded because it some places it is illegal.

Oh and dont get me wrong, I love flamethrowers, on cars they belong on, which is few, the whole F&F scene has ruined any other cars worth putting flamethrowers on, becuase now it seems every kid wants flames coming out of their exhaust, either from running rich or from a little rich and a sparkplug, if F&F didnt exsist I'm sure it would seem alot better on rides, but now its been over used and abused.

wow, such cruelty. can we all just get along?

i have been ripped on time and time again for building up a V6. so, though i may not agree w/ what hes doing, or i may, its his car and we have to respect that...... unless he puts a cardboard wing on the back of it (funny story to that). i am proud of what i have done to mine and dont really care what anyone else thinks. not to brag up anyone or put anyone else down in this. just remember, we are all the ones that are made fun of at some point b/c we drive a V6. even if you have plans later on of putting a V8 in, you drive a V6 now, youre going to catch hell for it.
when i was younger, i may have made fun of him, but ive learned that we all have our own tastes for what we like and dislike. i love my V6 and wouldnt swap it for a V8 (unless its over 400hp and free, lol). i dont wanna **** anyone off, but lets just all respect everyone elses rides. remember, were all in the same boat here, same or different, were all V6 thirdgens

i dont think having an old school car makes a person old school.

i know people that are passionate about old cars, and dont have one.... those people are the most old school in my eyes.

And who said flamethrowers was the only thing im going to do.....i have a list that totals about 20 grand, and finishes off with a crate engine, and im going to do it over a long time.

so this conversation is done, its pointless now

My bad then, I can get grumpy sometimes.

Btw you shoudl probabbly put the crate engine at the front not the end , then you wouldnt have wasted the other money u spent on the things you did before the crate engine, unless its things that can be moved over then ignore me.
