Timing

Timing

Hey guys, I have an '88 Firebird with a 2.8 v-6, and I was wondering what the timing is supposed to be set at? I read on here about an '89 2.8 v-6 being set at 12* above top dead centre (think I have that correct) and was just wondering if my car is supposed to be set to the same 12*...any help would be appreciated, thanks :-)

Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 7.625 open-factory 3.42
The factory setting is 10 degrees BTDC

Hey Oldschool, thanks for letting me know that, very appreciated :-)...also, do you or anybody else who know's the answer to this, are the numbers for the timing mark all below TDC? as I see from a zero to a 12, but not sure is those are below or advanced, so I'm guessing that on mine, it should be at the 10* on that number tag thing, am I correct? Thanks again to you and anybody else that knows the answer :-)

Yes, all the marks on the indicator are for Before Top Dead Center. Zero being top dead center and all the rest are before tdc. Make sure you disconnect the EST connector or it won't be set right. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...=est+connector

edit: some people do set it at 12* for a little more power, I don't see the need for a daily driver. It's easy enough if you go to the track to reset it before running and then change it back when you're done.
