(Random noises of Excitement)

YES!! I am so happy right now. My paycheck got direct deposited about 20 minutes ago, and I have the money to buy the Bird!!!

So this Saturday I am going to be making to drive to Springfield, and the guy will tow it to my house (about a 30 minute drive away) for FREE! And the guy also got offered more money than what I am giving him($600 instead of $500), but since he is practically part of my friend's family, he told the guy no.

I am so freaking happy.......which is bad because now I won't be able to sleep until Saturday night, when the Bird is sitting in my drive way. BUt until then I am going to be doing a happy dance....

So whenever it get's here, I will take LOTS of pictures. And I will post for your viewing pleasure...... So until then, enjoy the suspense.
Until then I will be doing one of these numbers ----->

*** I love that lock guy, he is just so happy and carefree.....

Towing a used car is cheap insurance that nothing happens during transportation and transferring ownership.
Especially ones with low purchase price!

Hopefully all your repairs will be minimal! LOL!
But great going!!!!!
Sounds like a good score for the purchaese price.

Why car needs towed.....

I guess the people that owned the car (before the guy I am buying it from did) weren't too bright.

First off they have the headlights jury rigged together and grounded so that you wedge this house key behind the positive terminal on the battery and viola! headlights... (The motors were disconnected but I was told that they work....we'll see)

Also I guess that the "Hey I am a powerful fast car" look got to them and they decided to street race it. Well......in the process of that they spun out and hit one of those little 3 feet tall concrete posts. Well it dented in the front passenger side quarter panel, and it hit the wheel, while it was turning, forcing it to turn really sharply to the left, and stay there. So I am not entirely sure what all is wrong with that, I was told it was either the A-Arm, or the hub assemply, but then I got told that these cars don't have a hub assembly, so I am just going to bring it home. give the entire front suspension, and the steering components a good look over, and fix what needs to be fixed. Then I get to give the car a good tune up, and then I get to put a new headlight switch in and rewire the headlights.
So this car is at least a good introduction to wiring, body work, steering, suspension, brakes, and how to do a complete tune-up. Can't take classes on that for $500 can ya? Plus I get a sweet ride that all the chicks will dig in the process. (SCORE!!) Well, I guess I am rambling, since I am super hyper, and I am going to go pay for and pick it up around Noon today.

I am wired for sound.

UPDATE

Well, I went and paid the guy, got my Bill of Sale all filled out and signed. Well.....the car was buried behind a couple broken down taxi cabs. Well, he couldn't do anything until the guy in charge of all those cars got there, which was about 2:00. So he moved the cars out, got my Firebird pulled up and he is going to tow it tomorrow (today technically) between 12:00 and 2:00 pm. Since my friend is nearly impossible to get ahold of on Sundays to tell the guy where to tow it to (my house) he is going to drop it off at my friend's cab company. He refuses to tow it any farther, and since he's towing it for free, I can't argue with him.

So then my Firebird will at least be in the same town as me.....but on the other side, and it's obviously not drivable.........So (here my sweet connections come into play) my friend is going to have the mechanic for the cab company get the front end fixed. So then (at night) I am going to drive it back to my house......

And it's a salvage title, which kinda sucks, so they have to fill out the paper work and mail it off to the state, and then in a few days/weeks the state will mail them the title, and then they'll get it over to me.

So, all in all, I think that's pretty sweet since I just got me a pretty decent 3rd gen to start off with. Eventually I hope to have it close if not back to showroom condition.........And when I post the picture, you'll see why that will be a grueling job for me......

Well, I went to look to see if it was here today, and it was. I was kinda curious as to why the guy didn't have them call me, but I soon realized why. In the process of him towing it here, the front bumper cover got all messed up. Now it has a big old crack in it, and the two bolts holding it on the bottom are still attached to the cover, but not to the car....You can kinda see it in the picture. I was mad, but I am more worried about getting it to my house right now, so I think I will let it slide.......He did tow it for free after all, of his own free will, The cover was already ruined, all he did was somehow detach it from the front of the car......

I am only going to have the cab mechanic fix the front wheel so I can drive it home. I don't trust him to do the rest. I am thinking of flashing some cash in front of him to light a fire under his butt, tell him the faster its done, the more he gets.

The cab company isn't in the best part of town, so I locked everything down, and tied the rear hatch shut. It doesn't have anything valuable inside, so I don't see anyone breaking in it, but might as well lock it just to be safe.

I looked it all over today, found a little bit of rust on the back driver's side wheel well, and in some small areas, and a little line next to the weather stripping where the T-Tops rest. I've decided that I will fix the minor stuff, and I am going to take the car, a new bumper and a new fender to the body shop and have them put all that stuff on and give it either a nice new coat of red, or I was thinking of having it painted a nice black, or dark blue.

All that is after I get all the mechanical and interior problems fixed..... Well I think I have kept the people of thirdgen.org waiting long enough, so here are a few pics. (they are with my camera phone, and I ran out of time before I had to go meet my cousin, so they aren't the best of quality and I only have three....I'll take some more when I get out there tomorrow......

Front Shot

And here's one of the front. You can kinda see where the bumper cover is hanging down all funky like..... The one headlight doesn't stay open very well, I think the gear is stripped out in it, and the other I can't get to shut (no power to it, and I can't get the **** thing to turn far enough to get it shut) so I'll have to see what I can do about the winking..........

Rear

Ok Ok last one (I know I need to find a place to host these, and I know places have been mentioned thousands of times on here, so I'll search for it later, but right now I am super tired with it being 3:45 in the AM.....) So here you see that sexy rear, sparking my friends to call it "the Hott Sex Box"........And off to your right is a lovely dodge cab. Isn't it amazing folks??

so far it doesn't look tooo bad. Just DO NOT paint the car black. I have a black car. It's not the easiest thing to keep looking clean. Just keep it red. Red is faster, right?

Yeah, then I can put a few stickers for products I don't own all over it, and then it'll be the fastest car ever, right? LOL

I haven't decided anything about color yet, and it'll be awhile, so I'll probably change my mind about a dozen times before I finally take it in. Like I said I am just wanting to get it over to the good side of town as soon as possible, cause I keep finding myself driving by half expecting a window or a t-top to be busted out......

I bought a running drivable 84 Trans Am w/L69 about a month ago for $500, you just gotta look around and be patient and you can find some really good deals.

Update

Yeah I knew it was a deal for only $500, that's why I grabbed it and ran.........I'm still waiting for the state to send the title though........damn salvage titles.

Anyway, I had the mechanic look at it today, we jacked it up. I was so scared that it was going to be something major wrong with that, like the rack and pinion, or something severe was wrong with it.......but nope, just a Spindle. It bent the spindle, popped the lower ball joint out of place, and may have broke the sway bar.......but all it needs to be drivable (enough to get it to its home) is a spindle. So I am going to try and hunt one down from one of our used auto part places, and pop it on myself on Thursday, and then I'll drive her home and bask in her radiant glow.....

excuse me while I wipe my face off.

Anyways, I noticed something funny on it today, we were jacking up the car, and I got a close look at the broken center cap on the wheel, and I had to hide a chuckle. Two of the center caps are plain black with a gold bird on them, but two of them say WS-6. Which I am pretty sure this car doesn't have, but still I found it amusing.

(By the Way, anyone know of a good place to go buy spindles?)

S-10 SERIES TRUCK MAY MAY MAY Be same as the Firebird
FIND A wrecking yard & a guy who knows the Hollandar books to confirm this!
BUT YES ONLY a two wheel drive version works on this theory.

s10's have upper ball joints that bolt to the spindle, we have "struts". s10 spindles won't work.

Rats
That's first S Series front end part that will not work on our cars.
Thanks for that information.
Lots of S Series Front end part will work.
Sounds like F Body for this part is "unique".
Atleast there are lots of F Body in yards

Well, I decided that I am just going to have it towed across town. That way I can stick it on jack stands and redo that wheel the right way. That and I wouldn't be able to drag the Firebird into the garage at the cab company, and I'd only be able to work on it on the weekends. And since the cab company has been having things done to the cabs recently, like nails being spread across the driveway, and lug nuts mysteriously disappearing, or becoming loose......... Yeah I don't want my baby in danger, so I think I'll just fork over $50 and have it here at home......

I got to mess around with my car for about a half hour yesterday, just long enough to find out that the dome light doesn't come on (but the bulb is fine) The third brake light doesn't light, the little reading lights on the rear view mirror don't come on, the horn doesn't work, the headlight switch is definitely shot, because the dash lights won't come on, and the brake lights will only come on to tell you that the brake pedal is pressed, and the fog lights won't come on.........but the rear defrost will come on.

I did find the factory radio in that little locking compartment in the trunk......That was an interesting find. And where exactly is the spare tire kept? 'Cause I can't find it, or it's hole..........

Well, that's it for now.......

did you check the fuses? some lights in my car wouldnt work when i got it no matter what i did(dont remember what they were), but it turns out there was just a fuse missing(not burnt, just missing). just make sure they are all there and working before you go testing wires and all that jazz.

on a related topic, i bought my old 85 Z28 LG4 for $350 + a ****ty headunit that was in the car (a jenson). The only thing wrong was it had no paint, I had to do a little wiring to make the headlights/turn signals work and it needed a tranny rebuild. $500 later and it was running and has been for the past 50k. Just gotta look for the deals.

Looks like a good project, have fun with it!

Well, my Firebird project got put on hold...........I got into a wreck in my mom's car, so I had to give her my Galant, and now I have to wait and see if the insurance company will total it, or if they are gonna fix it. I am kinda wanting them to total it, then we can get out from under that car payment..........I am still in the process of getting the bird towed, it will probably be this weekend, and I may have a hook-up on the spindle, so it's slowly plodding along, but I need a daily driver first though..........

Update

Well, the bird is home, and I have the interior all ripped apart. I decided that if I am going to redo this I am going to redo this the right way. I haven't addressed the spindle yet, or the hatch pulldown motor, but I am working on my lighting problems, i need to reconnect the stock wiring and replace the fusible link, and then we'll see where we are at. So far everythig has been cut and dry, except the wiring.......I'll try to explain....

Well,, while trying to figure out what was wrong with the wiring, I discovered the headlight switch was not getting power, which of course would account for most of my problems.......Well I jumped a wire from the battery straight to the headlight switch, and the alarm for the lights being on came on, along with the fog light switch!! I assume that everythign else come on as well.....Well, being the inexperienced teenager that I am, I thought that the fusible link was the ENTIRE wire...... ....... so I bypassed the wire with a wire with a fuse going striaght to the battery. Well after I hooked it up to the headlight switch, only the headlights come on.......which makes me sad. Well, I later found out that the fusible link is just a short peice that needs cut out and replaced, so I am going to rehook up the stock wires, and replace that fusible link..........now for my question:

What's the chances that hooking back up the stock wire is going to fix my wiring hassles?? I think it will, since everything worked when I jumped the wire, but I don't want to go into this with flase hopes............so any opinion would help alot.......

Other than that I can't wait to get the Bird on the road!!!!!!
Thanks for your help TGO!!!
