Have pictures of it? Thats why Im asking
Why Gut it? Because I'm MAP, and dont need the maf except for the clean connections on my intake, and its plastic so it wont get as hot as metal.

Why gut it, sorry... LOL, I see what you're doing now - although, you'll find that it WILL be a restriction still - it's a venturi style setup.
Might I suggest some thin-walled PVC pipe? Just scuff it with some 180 grit sandpaper, and paint as desired

I dont see how it will be a restriction? In fact, performance has improved since I got rid of the pipe.
I also didnt like how the pipe, or way a 3" pvc would fit into the snorkle.

venturi:
1. A short tube with a constricted throat used to determine fluid pressures and velocities by measurement of differential pressures generated at the throat as a fluid traverses the tube.
2. A constricted throat in the air passage of a carburetor, causing a reduction in pressure that results in fuel vapor being drawn out of the carburetor bowl.
Please explain how the maf being gutted, is any different then a tube of pvc?

Yes, that's very true - but do you want another restriction, upstream, even if it is less of a restriction?

I just got a 3 inch rubber coupling and took some 3 inch exhaust pipe hooked the coupling to the airbox and had the exhaust pupe go to the intake. Cant even tell its there and it looks like a clean install.

Dale, is that a Delco, or Bosch unit?
Mine is a Delco, and you are right - 3" ID. The odd thing is, is that the unit I looked at at work, was a Bosch unit, and looked like it had a tube run down it, to make it 2 5/8" -
Now the weird part - it didn't have that central tube - just the flat board, with the fq film.
Also, I see you have the straight MAF connector - Alan, do you still have that one you had, with the 90º angled connector? I'd swear that that is the Bosch unit!
Naft, owned? Hardly... if anything, I think we're about to find out there are 2 different style MAFs floating around. That, or that reman'd unit was boxed wrong at work

I dont know the difference between the two. Its to dark now, but tommorow I will take some pics of my finished project. Will also compare to the unit I take out.
Their are a couple "lips" for like the screen, and connections on the back, but they were like 1/16 of inch tall, and I knocked them down very fast with a bit in the air drill.

i saw a tomco unit on ebay i think it was, the outer shell was tapered toward the middle and then it expanded to the other side. if the bosch unit is like that inside, it would make sense that the shaping is to direct the airflow . . . the circular piece inside would create a venturi similar to the tapered ID.
and what is this i hear, running in a turbo? . . . now doward, thats not really a turbo, its a foot-driven supercharger.

lol, Cardone, Tomco, they don't actually BUILD the units - they just remanufacture them. Delco, Wells, and Bosch actually build them... as does MicroTech.
