Can I do this with EGR crossover pipe?

I blocked it where the crossover pipe meets the throttle body and was getting a 32 code. Ok...so I blocked it where it meets the throttle body and left the pipe just sitting in the way so it can "breathe". What I want to do is take the crossover pipe off and cut both end flanges off. On one flange, seal up the edge where it was cut and that will give me a nice piece to cover the place on the throttle body. The other piece I want to kinda make a 90 degree elbow to put on the flange so when I put it back on the pipe that comes from the manifold, it will vent the hot exhaust downward away from the engine compartment. Ant ideas on this setup?

Ken

how about get some 16/18 guage metal and cut up blocker gaskets.

or just unplug the EGR selinoid...

To eliminate the malf code and have the engine run correctly, with the EGR blocked or disconnected, is to set the EGR enable temperature to 151°C in the EPROM.

Otherwise the ECM will enable the EGR, add SA, and reduce fuel. And with the EGR blocked or disconnected this will cause all kinds of issues.

I have and '87 with a mechanical EGR that I generally run blocked off (because they load the intake with carbon) and I have never thrown a code.

I leave the EGR in place with the vaccuum line hooked to it and functioning, yet I insert a block plate between the flex hose and the plenum.

ken3983 is running a '91 MY vehicle. The EGR is different, the ECM is different, and the ECM EGR diagnostics are different from an '87 MY vehicle.

And that is just the stock stuff that is different.

Letting the egr just vent like that is going to be noisy.
Also you're in NC, yes? Still have to pass a visual emissions inspection, that setup will fail....

unless you know someone....

...yeah, my bad. I got the 3.1 V6 with the digital EGR on it. A vacuum type would probably be less of a headache. After the 32 code I just blocked up the throttle body hole and left the pipe "hanging" there. Thats' why I want to vent the hole that comes from the pipe off the manifold downward so I get no code.Seems like it would work. The cars drives and idles fine.Just don't like the thought of that heat staying up there on top of the engine or in the compartment.

I'd hook the EGR pipe back up to the manifold with the block off in between. No noise and it'll pass the visual.

The code may be tough to get rid of. To test the EGR the ECM will activate the EGR and look for the drop in manifold pressure. This is usually done during decel. All three pintles can be tested in this manner.

Why is it you want to disable it anyway? Can't tell if the code 32 came after or before the EGR pipe was blocked/disconnected.

burn a chip and disable the code 32. that's all i did on my 91. egr is unplugged and not even there cause my older headers don't have provisions for it.

mine does have the provisions for it, but i am gonna block it all off really soon, so i don't have to keep cleaning the intake as much!!!

where do you ask; the PROM board has a strict rule, any "prom begging" threads will be deleted.
