my car starts and idles perfect but when the accelerator is pushed hard it dies and the choke light comes on.So the accelelerator can only be pushed lightly in order for it not to die.So the car is really slow because i can only gradually accelerate.If I accerate fast the car dies.Any ideas.Could it be the fuel pump ?

 

its carb right? If yes, your carb is probably in need of a rebuild, sounds like its flooding the motor.

*might* be your fuel pump but from what Ive learned so far usually when that starts going it doesnt deliver as much fuel to the motor (ie decreased fuel pressure til it eventually totally craps out) and like I said it sounds like it's getting flooded so Im not thinking thats the case.

 

Me and my buddy took off the air cleaner and he noticed one of the sensors was fried on the carb.I found a good one along with the socket at the junkyard and installed it.Car runs great now.Off to get a smog check now
