I have three grooves on the harmonic balancer on my 2.8. which one do I use when i stab the distributor? I've set the number 2 piston at TDC, compression stroke up. I think I know where #1 is on the cap, look at my drawing and see if I am correct.

my buddies #1 on his 3.1, seems farther back. should mine be the same. I know all 6's use the firing order 123456 on the cap.

please help.

 

Why #2? Put #1 on TDC than set the Dizzy in and do the timing..

As for which mark, find the biggest, I belive my s10 2.8 had 3 as well.

If you have access to another engine similar, set them both side by side and match the other. Then fine tune it with the est disconnected and a timing light.
