2.8 out of 2005 CTS

Been doing some looking around and came across this. Its a 2.8 out of an 05 caddy CTS. I looked it up and its supposed to put out 210 hp with a torque of 195. What do you guys think this is a wise buy? Looking at buying another 88 with a blow motor.

If I'm not mistaken that's a front wheel drive car and won't work in your thirdgen.

caddies are RWD.

you would need to convert to OBDII or whatever theyre on now. I can't believe that sold for only $750 . . . . maybe because its only a 2.8, but still. DOHC, VVT and variable intake . . . if you stroked that out to a 3.2(with a bore) you could make some epic power while still maintaining excellent streetability. But its nowhere near a bolt-in, your looking at a lot more work than a tpi 350 swap, for a lot less power and potential. cool factor oh yeah, but lsx engines are cool too, and thats about the level of difficulty your looking at(but harder because no one has done this one before).

go for it, this engine is incorporating more modern technology than LSx engines currently are, which should make it a very up-to-date powerplant for the for-seeable future.

I was thinking that GM was offering that 2.8L engine and a 3.9L engine that are of the same block castings as the original 2.8-3.4L engines, which should make the actual swap pretty straight forward. The difficulties will be in compatiability of the components, it's a late model engine, so definately nab the wiring harness for it, also run the risk of the transmission being computer controlled by the module also, which might require you to use the actual transmission in order to ensure proper function of all the engines components, also be looking at all the sensors that'll be necessary, as those most likely won't be included in one of the engines, such as the location of O2 sensors and the works, I'd see a pretty good chance you'll be making many changes to your exhaust system to incorporate multiple sensors (if it's using them)...best of luck, and keep everyone updated if you go for it.

haha just pokin fun. I would love to see it done(heck i would love to do it), its just from a realistic standpoint its gonna take a lot of $$.

Well its all or nothing with this package. You basically need to change out the entire drivetrain for it to work since everthing is computer connected. Best bet is to find a wrecked car if I planned on doing this. Was a good idea though.
