cleaning iac
Well i did everything possible for a tune up on this car except iac it runs great and has a smooth idle of 650rpm but at stop lights it revs up from like 650rpms to about 800rpms back and fourth i heard it was caused by a dirty iac. I bought a can of air intake/throttle body cleaner do i use this too clean iac? also which parts of the intake system should i clean to prevent this rough idle? Ill have the intake system off when i change the valve cover gaskets so i can clean anything i have too to prevent this.

Yep, that's the chemical you'd use; here's a link to a message I wrote up on cleaning the WHOLE iac circuit:

Nope, I didn't bother to. I explain where everything is AND what it all looks like in the third paragraph where it starts off "The IAC passageway can be seen..."
Just remove the air intake bellows and unscrew the IAC. Spray out the passages behind the IAC hole and the throttle body and throttle blade to remove carbon. When you clean the pintle on the IAC, make sure the carb cleaner doesn't get into the base of the sensor.
Re: cleaning iac
Bringing up an old post; What happens if carb cleaner gets into the base of the center? I'm asking for someone who recently sprayed carb cleaner up the base of the IAC sensor to clean it as an unsuccessful attempt to solve a rough idle...
