by adding a new mount, i assume you mean replace it right? they are not fun at all. the mounts are held onto the frame w/ bolts that have nuts on the back side. those nuts are very hard to access. ive been trying to find enough time to replace mine w/ some polyurethane ones i bought. and its a 2 person job, one under the hood, one under the car.

if your 84 engine bay is anything like mine, its really not that hard to get to the bolts, i was able to do the mounts myself w/o any help, just put the car up on some jack stands (one on each side in the front) and use a ratchet w and extion on one end and a breaker bar on the other, true its eaiser with another person, but it is a one person job that should take no longer then an hour or two depending on how many people ask why the hell you are working on a v6 camaro

That Metal piece that is connected to the frame is part of the motor mount, Its easyer to access the mount from under the car, it really isnt that hard and a one person job if you have the right tools (a ratchet,a few extentions, and breaker bar, with one haveing a deep socket, so that you can get to the nut.

looks similar to my 91 mount, location wise.
it is a pain in the *** job,
if I remember correctly there's like
bolt and nut that will turn together so u'll have to like lock one up while u turn the other one..
not sure on ur 84, but for me I just gave up after 2hours
caz all I could took off was the main bolt,
which's the easiest one.
P.S. shop charged me for 3hour labor for both.. but took 5hours to finish.. go figure!

this very same problem happend to me.. turned out to be driver side cross member,. bolts were striped out so the cross was hanging on that side.,i had to re thread the holes to one size bigger ,.i almost went with heila coils,.but the rethreading worked well,.,.also i found that this cause bolts to rip out from. my motor mount up front,. but the cross fix worked well for 2 years now,..,only thing that can be hard about rethreading the holes is youll need a good amount of arm straingth to tap the hole,..,you need to remove the whole thing [cross] so you will be holding the trans up with the jack,. unless the bolts fit back thru the threads.,oh yea this is also a good time to check your trans busshing in the middle as well
