shut down going up hill., please help ,.,.,.

ok last year i was climing a fairly steap grade to get back to my town,. in yucca valley and as i was going up this hill i just lost power,.had to pull to the side of the road and i tried restarting it,. but it would not stay lit,.,.so after siting 15 min., just for the hell of it and in desperation in this,.., over 100degree heat., i fired it up again and vola it was back to normal,.

Since then i have came up that hill with no problems,. But today it did the same crap.,As mywife and i were coming up the hill it just lost power and died out,. now knowing from my prior expiriance i just let it sit a while and told girl not to worry.,sure enough it started up fine and continued up the rest of the way with no additional problems when it died the engine light did come not sure if it will spitout a codewhen i checkit later,.,.

it almost seems like something needed to cool down and reset itsself,..,PLEASE IS THERE ANY ONE OUT THERE THAT CAN TELLMEWHATS GOING WRONG?? it was a lil over 220 but im usualy at that in this heat and thatgrade,..,. my guess is that there is some sensor getting to hot., if i try and start it right afhter it dies it cranks but is real choppy and shuts back down like somethingiswrong with fuel delivery,.or spark.,,..,.,.,ANYONE GOT ANY CLUE??

Not completely sure, but when the ICM fails it can only act up at higher temperatures. Letting it sit cools it down enough to work correctly again.

clogged fuel filter? maybe it was choking, causing a lean condition, which would raise your coolant temp. take it off and drain it into a clear class and see if there is any garbage in there.

bad tank vent???Well i did at one time smell a slight oder of fuel that went away, and when i refueld to day it was really pressureized making a (hissing sound), Can this realy affect me like that shutting me down while accelerating?? but why then after a cooling period is it normal??

Toehead i want to agree with you cause it seems to make obvious sence,.but what excactly is the ICM? and where?., my computer? And why is it getting to hot?

I need to fix thihs problem right away??
Thanks in advance,.,..,.,

The ICM (ignition control module) Is the little black box looking thing under your distributor. When they fail, they first stop working when the car is at operating temperature. When that happens, it will start, run fin until hot, then suddenly have no spark until it cools down. I have not personally had one go bad on me, I am just relying on the experiences of others
Good luck

i would say its the ignition coil, the one that sits on the exhaust manifold. try wrapping some heat shield around it.

Yes, there's a vent under the car, near the tank on the left hand side and it looks like a toy top. It's designed to let air INTO the tank to keep a vacuum from building up. When you run the car for a while, using fuel, you'll build a vacuum in the tank and the pump won't be able to pull the fuel out as well. Then you shut off the car and the vacuum dissipates through the EVAP system.
