1982-1984 2.8l

Whats the lifetime i can expect from an 84' 2.8l with 88,000miles. Ive heard people say they shoot rods alot becuz something due to a a weak crankshaft. Also are the remanufactered 2.8l engines any good becuz if mine does shoot a rod that will probaly be my investment. So if you guys may know something about these motors please post. BTW these are the carbed 2.8l's.

I'm not sure about the old carb'd ones. but when I had a 2.8 MPFI in my 87 I ran it into the ground. that V6 would go anywhere and never quit or foul up at all. didn't get the best gas milage but even after taking some serious abuse I pulled it in working condition and sold it for $250

if it does blow up, go with a 3.4, but the milage is pretty good, i'd worry about other things before worrying about the motor unless you drive it like you stole it.

I have over 190,000 miles on the '84 and IIRC there are members on here that have well over 200k on theirs. The '84 still runs well although it leaks enough oil to start a small middle eastern oil cartel.

My old 84 2.8L V6 5 Speed went 288,000 before I blew a head gasket, and I just parted it out, cause the frame was rotted. That and I had only paid $100.00 for it a year earlier, used it for a Daily Driver, and put 60,000 or so on it. ANd they were not the most gentle miles either LOL

my 83, before i wrecked it had 93k miles on it, i beat the car to hell (engine wise) and it was still running strong, even now since its recked the engine is still running (no damage to the engine, just body) they are very good engines, just make sure you find all your vacume leaks.

my 91 3.1Li has 191k now and still my daily driver.

try a little thicker oil so u have less chance of having a knock.

engine should run for over 200k for sure,
things to worry about is other components like water pump, fuel pump,
and all these small things which shouldnt be too hard to fix.
just maintain it well and car will run for ya
