maf to sd ??? need help

alright im gonna be droping a stock 3.1 back in the car fo rthe time being since i need to be able to drive the car until my 3.4 is done, since i am gonna drop my original turbo system on the 3.1,i figured id swap over to sd..
heres the deal i bought a very low milage 3.1 out of a 92.im getting engine/trans along with the harness and ecm. well the harness is still pluge dinto the engine sensors etc,it was just disconected from the ecm and various other car harnesses.hvac controls and such.
now is it possible for me to just drop this engine/harness in , plug in the sd ecm/harness and be done,or is there some sort of mods that have to be done to the harness for it to fit my car

Should be a direct hook up, however, if you still have access to the donor car (especially if it's a junker), I would consider cutting the connector's (with a few inches of wire) leading from behind the dash (ALDL etc), to the ECM, just in case....

You aquired the tranny as well, so it should be a pretty straight-forward swap then...

Geez, Daves12sec, you're not scoring all my stuff outta my favorite junkyard, are ya?

Electric speedos only came on +85 cars with "Full Gauge Packages"... I have one out of an '87 car, along with the VSS and buffer box (H&H jyard, $free). If the '86 v6 just had gas & speedo, it got a mechanical speedo with VSS in the rear of the speedo.

I remember KED85 (Karl, RIP) said that the only diff between a full gauge package (electronic speedo) v6/v8 was a "scratch" in the pc board for the tach.

AsFarAsIRemember, you'll be OK with just the engine harness. I think the ECM will still need a buffer box connection from the VSS buffer- and your 2.8's mechanical buffer box will "probably" be able to be wired up. If not, hey, that's why we're on these forums

My bird came w/full gauges & mechanical spedo. iirc (yeah, haven't searched teh plethora of results that wouldbe involved), all birds(w/regular instrumentation, not digital) got full vss in 87, and the maros got it a yr later. iirc.

Tom, what part of Central New York, <cough> I mean Jersey are you from (neighborhood is changing, for the worse)?

Can you believe that B&B is selling, Dave? That's the only freaking boneyard in our area that has loads of F-Bodies (unless both you and Tom know something I don't)...
