2.8 -> 3.1?
my car has the stock 2.8 in it, my nephew has a 3.1 out of a FWD car, & he says it'll bolt right inplace of my 2.8 without any mods...
1. is this true?
2. should i do it?
3. would i notice any difference?

no a fwd motor will not bolt right in,the internals are the same,except the engine mounts on the block are diff and the starter is on the wrong side of the engine

NO! Fwd uses a block with different engine mount points. they also use a different ignition system. If the engine has the Alum heads you would also need the whole ECM fromt the FWD car to get it to work as well.
So if you had the resources to make special mounts to adapt the FWD to RWD yes you could use the FWD engine, but if it is a newer engine with the DIS ignition system IE Alum heads you will need to whole computer system for it.
EDIT: i didnt know about the starter. wonder if you could adapt that some how.

I have an 84 block in my bird and have a 90 grand am 3.1, what would it take to swap the guts?
anybody know the jurnal sizes between the cranks and bore on pistions?
is there v8 parts that'll swap in the pistons and rods?

throwing some stuff out there for this thread....... if the car has the vss setup, and a manual....... fab up teh engien mounts to work & use a tranny from the 3800 f-bods as the starter is on the other side.....
back to topic
journals onteh 3.1 should be bigger, as the 85+ got the upgrade. v8 rods look to be the same as sbc, going off of this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/2...ighlight=bible

there is no real reason to change out the rods anyway,the stock ones are plenty strong prolyl hold upto about 475hp if u dont rev over 6,500-7000
