V6 help

Hey guys. Im new to this board, so please dont flame. Ive searched these boards for an answer already and I didnt find one. Can someone direct me to a site, or tell me of a V6 engine I can purchase? Im looking for a V6 engine close to around 300HP if possible. I currently have a 1990 Camaro. I know some of you probably would tell me just to look for a V8 because that would be a hell of a lot easier, but I want this car to be more fuel efficiant because of the soaring gas prices up here in canada. Yet I dont want this car to be slow either. Thanks for the help guys

I would go V8. If its 300hp ur shooting for than probably a V6 is not for u. I know that a V6 is good on gas (i own a V6 Camaro) they get around 26-30ish mpg. I was reading the 1997 Corvette w/ an LS1 and it gets around 17-18mpg in the city and 25-28mpg on the highway. LS1 would be easy to install in ur Third Gen, they make LS1 conversion kits. Good Luck dude

get yourself a 3.4, cam, roller rockers, I/H/E. it will be alot faster, not near 300hp, but still quite a spirited engine none the less. g/l.

youre gonna have a hard time even hitting 200hp N/A, not a chance without FI or nitrous. and even then youre going to have to do some serious work to hit 300hp. and are you talking 300 at the crank or at the wheels?

I know I say this a lot, but I still think a nice Buick V6 is the way to go. The front wheel drive versions will bolt to your 60 degree V6 (2.8/3.1/3.4) transmission. The front motor mounts have to be fabricated and I am working on those now. You can get a 3.8 liter to give excellent mileage and decent power. If you need 300, then it's turbocharger time. No big deal; just look at Grand Nationals and the 89 Turbo T/A.

Anything is possible if you want it. There is no "simple" V6 answer, though. You will either need to spend considerable money or considerable time fabricating to acheive your goals. I have much more time than money so that is the route I will take.

Good luck and don't give up. Your first step is to decide what you want to do and what you are willing to do to get there.

200 is "doable" n/a, but it takes alot of work and money.

300, only way to hit that from a 6/60 is boost, and lots of it.

Not necessarily LOTS,
WONGSTER check out the how-to in the v6 forum. If you're severly mechanically inclined you can get aprox 400rwhp for about a grand, daves12secv6 is pushing 16psi and he's in the 12's.

^^^^ its still alot of work and time. daves12secv6 didnt just throw his turbo kit together it took time (both hands on , and time researching). money is also another issue, but if you have the money then you should have no problem, getting close to your goals. just make sure you have another car to putt around in while your building your car, dont try to do it all in a weekend or something.

If you have to ask, chances are that you aren't going to be able to make it happen.

6cyl thirdgens don't get much better gas mileage then the V8's. They make good day to day cars, but for performance you're starting off with a very handicapped platform. 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 parts are more expensive then parts for a 350. Unless you're handy with fabrication or you're made of money, 300hp from a 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, probably won't happen.

You could find a running, driving, 305 or 350 car for what you'd spend building a 6cyl and if you don't drive like an idiot, you'll get the same gas mileage.

it took me about a year in asking questions, and doing reasearch before i even bought my first turbo part.A stock 3.1 with a turbo should make 300 pretty easily with the right setup and tune.but ur not gonna do it the day u get the stup finished,it took me about 2 weeks to get my car to run right once i got the turbo on it.
though the point of the how to is to give alot of insight into how to do it,and to eliminate alot of the stuff i had to deal with when i did mine.which reminds me i have some info to post up about a safe/but decent power tunes to add for diff boost levels
