I was board and I started filing the casting lines and marks off the intake.

These pics are just after about 2 hrs with a coarse file. Gonna be about 30hrs of work in just the upper n middle intake. Why am I doing it? I dunno. Just using a rat-tail and half round bastard files. And air or die grinder goes to fast, isn't fun either. Ya need to do it by hand though if you want it to look nice. I used black marker to scribble around and find the hi and low spots to get it shaped right. Only about 40% done though. Dunno if I am even gonna put them on the car yet, dunno how I’m gonna finish it off, powder or paint. Something about working the file is just addictive, like peeling paint or………..

Case anyone ask its the 3.1 intake with no 2.8 badge circle hole like my stocker has. Got the whole 3 piece intake from oxiderush on a trade. Still owe him some powder coating work but he thrashed his car. Anyone ever notice his avatar???

OUCH

Yea I dunno about the polish. I hate keeping things clean. Why I like or do powder, I hate chrome. Chrome rust. My chrome rims only stayed that way for abouts 3 years till I got sick of cleaning them. Now every 3-4 months I give them a fresh coat of flate black 99cent walmart paint. Easier then cleaning n waxing to keep rust away.

Though they will get powder coated when its time for new tires.
Gonna need them in 4-5 months so it can wait.

That stimpled finish on the intake is whats killing me though. I hate sandblasting too and man it would take hrs to get that sucker super smoothed out. So I might just end up using a nice wrinkle or vein effect to mask that. Super mirror black would looks nice but its makes even the smallest defect stand out like a sore thumb x10.

Though the throtle body is already done in super mirrir black.
But its for a 3.1 and won't work on my 2.8, its different. When I got the parts from him I got eager and never paid enough attention to know it was a tad different, till it was done.

IAC n TPS is a tad different on newer the 3.1's

Anyone want it, no reasonable offer refused, trades considered.
No wives plz

just PM me

That's to smooth for me. I like the top ribs but wanted to ditch the circle.
My thought would be to do the top of the rib lines in silver leaf.

I agree, PC it whatever color you want (I'd go black) then take a file to the ribs then PC it clear. Looks great and 5sec with some degreaser will clean it up anytime.

powder coat will fill imperfections. I've covered up some pretty nasty casting marks with it before (one piece that is coming to mind right now was coated mirror black, also). But, yeah, using a wrinkle powder would def. cover all the imperfections.

You saying to hot reminds me. Powder coated parts cool better then bare metal parts from the thermal bond. The wrong kind of paint can hurt it though. To many times I see someone saying they took stove paint to the engine on their air cooled motorcycle.

stove paint has ceramic in it to hold in heat. Though is great for exhaust.
Gotta use proper hi temp engine paint. Or get a water buffalo bike.
