268 miles and I ran out of gas (15 gallon tank) - 17.9mpg

I can expect 250 miles a fill-up, and fill-ups are usually 13.5-14 gallons. So again, high 17's, low 18's in MPG.

2.8L Cat gutted, 180* stat, custom "warm air intake" with K&N" TB heater bypassed.

I used to get about 17 - 19 MPG with the 2.8. That is mostly city driving and idling (Highway driving in Hawaii during mornings = idling....not the usual highway speeds that most people know of lol)

with my 2.8 during the summertime I got about 28ish (350-380 miles between fillups) Can't remember winter mileage.

I need to do another mileage test with my new 3.4 now that I've got one bug out of many fixed. I was getting in the low 20's, but now i have a heated o2 that seems to be working right.

I was getting about 15MPG with a bad carb and was in need of a tune up.

That pretty much it. My wife drives very conservatively. We swapped cars one week, I caused her MPG to drop 5mpg, and my firebird went up to 23mpg (from 17-18).

Driver is the largest influence on gas mileage.

Broken sprag most likely. Gonna take a rebuild to fix it as its about halfway down. Not an easy job.

Eventually it'll break all the way and it wont go at all.

Luck, I would get better if I get a carb rebuild and get rid of my lead foot. When I drive my car I am always given it hell

Right combo of mods and driving habits. Alignments and correct tire pressure help.

Les schwaab told me my idler arm is worn out, so they can't align it. If it is indeed worn out, it might be messing up my mileage. I'm taking it to another place to see if they say the same thing. If so, I hope the mileage goes back up a little.

I've run out of theories as to why my new 3.4 uses so much more gas than my 2.8.

Crappy winter gas vs the summer gas I had last in the 2.8.
Regular oil vs the synthetic in the 2.8.
possible bad alignment.
Bad exhaust components combo
*edit, I guess I should check for vacuum leaks too. I do still have an ever so slight hesitation from a stop.

Thats about all I can think of.

Normally I got 28 highway, 23 around town. Had to baby it. Right after I gave it a really good tune up, I got 31.4 highway. Shortly thereafter I got a vaccuum leak and it kept dropping until it was 25 highway and 21 in town. A little giggle juice really dropped the mileage too.

yeah, i usually get around 22 city, 26-27 highway

in tally, the speed limit is around 35, so not really much to accelerate to, so that helps

...but no one obeys the 35, anyway

but yeah.. 22 city, 27 highway

i usualy get 18-20 city, driving a little hard. I have squeezed 35MPG highway a few times, but that is usualy road trip highway, like a whole tank at 65-80 MPH.

make sure your engine is in tune. make sure your cat is in good shape (or gone). a damaged/clogged cat will cheat you out of power and MPG. alignment, tire pressure. weight reduction can help this out as well.

also, if you are trying to save on gas drive with the Ttops on, aerodynamics play a part.

lastly, AIR CONDITIONING needs to be off! that sucks power and MPG like nothing else.

I find it ironic that the person that starts a thread for top speed also starts a thread for mile per gallon. Just an observation. I get 19 in the city and 29 on the highway.

I get about 18mpg around the city.
I run K&N filters, Dynomax exhaust, and the real improvers.... smaller crank pulley and magnaflow cat. Those last two products took me from 15.5 to 18
