TPS

How do I set the voltage on this thing to get rid of the check engine light. It has to be set to .54 to .56 volts. I have a Haynes manual and It tells me to get a digital voltmeter (have one) and connect it to the A and B ports on the wire connector. There is now way to do this. A quick reply would be nice as I want to fix it before night.
------------------------------
I have the thing set all the way up but it's only reading a max of .30 or so volts. Is the TPS bad again?

I think that it is the same method.

no its not. On a 3.1 you loosen the screws.

I thought the manual told you how to adjust it?

I know how to adjust it. There are two screws that attach it to the throttle body. It moves up and down. To adjust it right it has to be set at a certain height. Depending on the height is how much voltage the sensor sends out. My problem is that I need it adjusted to .54 to .56 volts. Right now I have it as far up as it can go but it's only reading at .30 volts. If I go lower then the voltage goes lower. That is my problem.

drill out the holes. But it actually sounds like the TPS is bad and needs replaced. Ive never seen one that far off.

You have to rotate it, not move it up and down. If you rotate it clockwise, you increase the voltage and vise-versa. It's exactly the same as with a 3.1L.

That's what I meant. The light is off now but when I go to check the codes it still pops up. Also my idle is irratic now. It'll sit around 1000 but drop to the point where it almost dies then it flares back up. I have a broken header bolt if that may be the cause from different pressure?

The code will still be there until 80 warm-up cycles or you clear the ECM memory. The best way to clear the ECM memory is to open the hood and find the fuses on the passenger side fender next to the battery (I'm assuming it's a camaro). Pull them both for good measure since I couldn't tell you exactly which one is for the ECM power, but one is the ECM and the other is for the MAF. Leave them out for 5 minutes then reinstall.

if you can't get teh voltage high enough with the throttle closed, the TPS os probably bad.

The erratic idle deffinitly sounds like a vacuum leak. Once you actually have the engine running, spray carb cleaner around everything. The idle will come up when you get near the leak. This is the trick I use at my shop.

Remember, it's not just hoses that leak, check the brake booster and the intake manifold. It doesn't matter if you've never removed the manifold or it was running fine at one point since you reinstalled the manifold. Leaks happen and the worse thing you can do is assume that something is OK.

Replaced the TPS but it still is at about .30 volts when its rotated all the way up. Is my only option now to adjust the throttle screw until it goes up to .54 volts?

Edit: could the VATS light comming on have something to do with this?
