Yeah, but from what I have read they will not be SMOG legal.

Isn't SMOG only required for California?

i remember hearing theyre 50 state legal, but only if you do not have AIR, because you have to delete the AIR pump. but i cant find where i read that.

I have to get emissions done, but they just stick the sniffer in the exhaust. What is the AIR pump?

Air Injection Reaction: it injects fresh air into the exhaust manifolds to help lower emissions by dropping your hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide levels. so if theyre shoving a sniffer up the tailpipe, theyre gonna find ya out. if you have one on your car, there will be pipes going into each port of your exhaust manifolds and a big pump on the lower pass side of your engine w/ 2 big rubber hoses on it. thats how youll know if youve got it or not.

There is a steel line going into the passenger manifold but not the driver side.

EDIT: Looking at the pictures of the headers, it looks like there is some sort of plug on the passenger side (on ceramic coated and black painted):

Does anyone know if these will work with a stock style cat. converter though? I just put a Magnaflow direct fit on.

EDIT 2: I was right, according to Pacesetter's web site, these headers have: Flanged Collector, Hook-ups for smog & engine management sensors, Comes with header extension to connect to stock system. Fabrication may be required, and 50 States legal.

If you do get those don't use the gaskets they give you. Get Fel-pro.

It'll be a little bit before I can even think about ordering these since tires & spacers have to come first.

Hello. I have a question. How hard would it be to weld something on the header so the air pump would still be functional. The smog test they do here in my part of PA is a visual only. Meaning that all of the stuff has to be there and SEEM to be in working order. There is no sniffer test and they wouldn't scan the Computer because its not an OBD-II. But they scan all cars that are I belive, 1996 on. So my 91 would be fine on that.

I may be wrong, but I think the 2.8 and 3.1 smog set-up is different. I think the 2.8 has tubes that put air into each exhaust tube while the 3.1 only has one on the pass. side.
And the plug on the passenger side that you mentioned is for the EGR.

its the big thing sticking off the top of your pass exhaust manifold w/ a metal tube that goes back to the intake manifold.

Ok, I thought that was the AIR pump. Where does that go into the manifold then? I didn't see anything else besides that.

if theres nothing else at all going to your exhaust manifolds, then you probably dont have AIR on your car, so you dont have to worry about it.

Unless there is something else and I didn't see it because I thought the EGR was it. Is there an RPO code for AIR?

Here is a pic. of the stock 3.1 pass. exhaust manifold.
The 3.1 only has one hole for the AIR pump, and it is not on the 2.8 headers.

I went back and looked and I didn't see EGR because of the alternator bracket and some metal piece covering the EGR tube that goes into the manifold. I have AIR and the EGR then. Damn.

just buying a new cat should allow you to pull the air system out of the car entirely if your local place doesnt do visual checks or if your mechanic is cool and will let it go.

ok, so what all do you need to do to the 3.1 with the headers for it to pass inspection?

Someone said that pacesetter said they come with plugs for the emission equipment. couldnt you cut or weld a hole in the header for the air pump?
