serious gas promblem

The other my engine wouldn't start after cranking and cranking with no luck and the battery dead i decided to check out all my stuff while my battery was on the trickle charger. I was checking my oil level when i noticed a bad smell of gas then i even popped my filler cap off and it really wreaked of gas. I already bought new oil, filter, gas filter and new gas since mine is fairly old. I just don't want to do all of this if i'm just going to have the same problem again. So is just from me flooding the engine or do u guys think this some way beyond a simple flood. I think it might be hydro locking and from what i understand that is not good.

Re: serious gas promblem

i also hold a steady gas pressure at around 47 psi and that stays for a long time (i checked an hour after and it only went down to about 45) so i don't really think it could be leaky injectors is there also any way to check the cold start injector? For now i'm going to replace all my vacuum lines since the last guy working with this engine inserted fish aqurium hose that patches up every 2 inches of hose. I'm also going to get some new spark plugs boots and cap and rotor and cross my fingers and hope it was just a bad spark.

any input would be much apreciated, we're kinda stuck on this one.

Re: serious gas promblem

ya that's what i figured to but i have never seen gas in the oil from flooding well on that whole list of stuff all i got left to do is the feul filter and premium gas but that's i hope it is and not a injector squirting instead of spraying or the coldstart injector going off full force. Actually when i redid all of my vacuum lines i found that the charchol canister and the left side of the throttle body was basically blocked off from the T connector and i put in a new one and hopefully that will help.

for the reply tho dude

You know they make a pill for that, right?

Anyway, depending on how long you were cranking, it is very possible to get gas in your oil. Take that old oil out of there, gas doesn't lubricate well at all, and put an inline spark tester on your coil before you try to start it next. Hopefully that narrows down the problem.

Re: serious gas promblem

i also have been trying to start my new engine and i have been having a problem with spark also and i checked my oil to see if it was all the way topped off and i also smelt bad of gas. so your saying that there is so much gas in the oil from cranking it? i sure hope that is the only problem. i got sort of worried when i smelt that. i thought there was something seriously wrong.
thanks

Re: serious gas promblem

A very common problem especially around here in the winter. At a place I worked at it was almost standard practice to change the plugs, the oil and charge the battery on a no start. The longer it cranks, the more fuel, the more chance it has to wash down the cylinder walls and drain into the crankcase. That doesn't do much for compression either, I have seen where sometimes a small shot of clean engine oil in the plug hole will seal the rings enough to get the compression up to get it started.
