reset timing to stock

ok, i did a search and i found one of the tech articles on how to adjust or chabnge the timming, bu how do i reset it and then adjust it from there.
my car now, i just changed the cam about 1 hour ago, and now the first piston is in TDC and the cam sprocket and crank sproket are both lined up and the niw chain is on. so is that it? is my timming now reset?
where should my rotor be pointing? right now it is at about 4 o'clock? thanks for the help. i explained the best i could.

Re: reset timing to stock

I know its a real pain in the *** when i changed mine it took us a couple of tried but that had alot to do with the fact that it was are first time. first you want to make sure u losen the distributor a little make sure your marks on the cam sprocket and the crank are point to each other (that was one mistake we made we faced them apart) put everything together then you will have to fine tune the timeing by twisting the distributor a little each way. I know its a v6 2.8 the time should be set stock to 10 btdc if its a v8 its 0 degrees. hope that helps.

ok, well if the first piston is in TDC, and the timming sprocket and crank sprocket are both in the right position pointing towards each other, then where does the rotor on the distributor have to be poiting at?

its a 2.8
