How do I put a 2.8L/TPI air box on a 3.1L

Ok so I have an airbox that I pulled from an 84 Camaro 2.8L and I want to use it on my car. All I bought was the airbox itself, not the MAF or air tube because they wanted to charge me extra for those and I didn't think I needed them. My original plan was to go to Auto Zone and get some red flexible couplers and an exhaust tube of matching diameter and make my own air tube that would look cool too. Today I found out that won't work when I went to measure the size of the throttlebody I noticed there is some sort of breather valve just before the throttlebody so I have to use the stock air tube. I think I can stretch it longer to reach the air box but I don't think I can stretch the opening of the tube half and inch to match the opening on the airbox. I searched for pictures of other people who have done this but couldn't find anything.
