Re: doesnt start

when turn the key what happens? does it turn over? does it make a click sound? Does it go click once or alot of times? Does it make no sound at all? You're going to have to tell us a little more details for us to help you.

Re: doesnt start

from where did it caught fire? and what year is it?

So does your car start or not, since you say that after it's been drivin it does not run?

I'm getting confused

Re: doesnt start

i have a 3.1 liter engine,it caught fire in the engine bay next to where the ignition coil and starter are.right now it does not turn on at all but when it did after it was drivin for a while if you turned if off it would not turn back on.

Re: doesnt start

you could of burned the power wire for your starter be trying to start it so much, it overheated and POUF!

Usualy when I see a car that does not start when the engine is hot, it's the fuel pressure regulator.

things I would do if I was you is

1.check the battery voltage
if thats good...
2.check for spark
if thats good
3.check fuel pressure

I'm sure in one of those there will be your problem, is you get no spark, you know it's an igintion problem, and it will help narrow down results. But now you got that little fire problem, I hope the wire, or the starter solenoid is not f#@$ed

Re: doesnt start

narrow it down.
Does the fuel pump prime?
Does the car spark?
All fuses good?
Do you have power to all the accessories ?

Re: doesnt start

OK, let's start over...

You say the car will turn over, but does not start. Meaning the starter circuit is ok and the motor spins, but it won't run.

What exactly caught fire? What is burned? Any wiring?

Has it run since you got the car or did you buy it not running?

How long has it been since it ran?

To try and diag a car over the internet, we need fairly detailed information.

Re: doesnt start

I've had so many bad starter solenoids in newly purchased cars it's not funny. I hate pulling the starter out of cars.

Re: doesnt start

note: with our cars... you can take the solenoid out WITHOUT taking off the starter... there are only 2 screws, take it out just like you see it in the box... and put the new one on. TRUST ME!!!! DO NOT TAKE OFF THE STARTER, ITS A PAIN AND VERY HEAVY. k? k. good. hehe

Trust me, you'll never see the end of your problems with an older car...it'll just be something new.
