My 2.8 is a dog, and it eats gas like mad

Is there any way to improve my 2.8's power without buying a turbokit? It's such a dog when it comes to accelerating, it sounds good and all, but it's really got no ***** what so ever. Any suggestions on small power increases?

small power just basic tune up, get it running good first, then do exhuast, headers, full or just a cat back. there isnt to much to do to these with out going big.

but best bang for your buck would be a $300 wet nitrous kit. that will wake the car up.

Nitrous is illegal in ontario .. It's got an exhaust on it, isn't there the possibility of doing a port and polish? Would that make much of a difference or will I just do nothing for performance?

heads full port/polish
new high performance springs/locks/retainers
delta cam custom ground cam/lifters
intake mild port/polish job
19lbs fuel injectors
1.6 ratio roller rockers

How much horsepower are you getting? I was going to fix this car up a bit, then sell it and buy an Iroc, so I don't want to put too much into the motor..

What pairtoe87 said is about is without getting into custom fab work.

If the car is eating gas like crazy, you've got something wrong. When I did a tune-up on my car, I got 30+mpg highway on a 250 mile trip. I get 25mpg city in this thing when it's in good shape, and it's bone-stock. I would do a full tune-up on it, make sure stuff like the timing is good, distributor looks alright, IAC is clean, etc, etc. I would also recommend a Seafoam treatment. Go to seafoam.com and find a retailer near you, then follow the instructions. It's the closest thing to a miracle you'll find short of raising the dead.

forkvoid is correct on his first line.

You either got something wrong, or your driving it wrong.

With a whipped 200k 3.1, I was able to get an easy 28mpg highway, and high teens in town. (just dont ask about my new car and its mpg *sigh*)
