coolant smell when ac or heater turned on

So for a while now when the car is on and I use the heat or ac I smell antifreeze. Its not great smelling as you can imagine and am wondering what the causes could be? Simple coolant leak some where? Car never gets low on coolant from what I can tell.

What do you think?

Re: coolant smell when ac or heater turned on

Very slim possibility of a leak at the heater hoses out under the hood at the firewall, seeping back into the car, but I'd guess the heater core is starting to leak. Real common after all these years. Couple good how-to posts on here if you search. Not an easy job though.

Yeah, check if you have a leak in your passenger seat. If you do, its a heater core.

Check the floor up to the firewall on passengers side, should be wet if heater core is leaking.

No it does not need to be on. Feel around the passengers side floor up to the firewall and you should find some wet areas.

If you find that the carpet and pad are wet, pull up the carpet and treat the area so it does`nt start to rust. Por 15 makes some good products to treat rust if you need them.
