Please help before I waste more time/money!
ok gentleman, i have a 91 rs 3.1/700r4 which suddenly makes this very loud "thump" whenever I give it any amount of gas from a standstill. It sounds to be coming from the front and I really thought it was a bad motor mount. Well, I spent all day and few bucks on special extensions yesterday to get a new mount in there. Problem is, apparently it wasn't the motor mount because it's still doing it! Here's what I know...it only happens if I am stopped or rolling very slowly and then 'hit it'. I would say anything over 1/4 throttle off the line and it will do this. Also, it doesn't do it in reverse, only forward. I was thinking something to do with the trans, but I really don't know anything about them. Please help because my wife is pissed that I spent my whole day off wrenching and didn't even fix it! Thanks alot.

Re: Please help before I waste more time/money!
well, i changed out the mount and the thing drives better than it did when i first bought it 4 months ago! the mount was so bad it seriously looked like someone taped an m80 to it. chunks were missing from it, it was completely separated from it's metal backing, etc. by the way, is that normal for a 'bad mount' or is it's condition an indication of something more serious? thanks again guys.

no its very common for the trans mount to break.the way the suspension works is when u give it gas the tq arm lifts up on the transmission, efectivlly trying to rip that mount in half, over time it eventually does.
one easy way to kill that mount is to get the tire(s) spinning and then when they grab it puts alot of stress on the mount.
also stick shift cars are more pront to breaking the mount then automatic cars

aye, mine went bad last year... it was ripped in half, but also extremely hardened/petrified (whatever the mechanical term for rubber going to almost rock is)

Why not just get a Polyurethane mount instead?
Interesting to know.
